Role Overview
Seeking an experienced SCCM/PowerShell Automation Engineer to lead the implementation of a new automation framework and facilitate the transition from MDT to SCCM. This is a critical consulting role focused on assessing the current environment, modernizing existing scripts, building robust automated SCCM task sequences, and developing comprehensive runbooks for ongoing automation across diverse server and workstation platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- MDT to SCCM Conversion: Convert existing MDT task sequences for various server roles (Domain Controllers, EASE Jump Servers, PKI, SCOM) and workstations into fully automated SCCM Task Sequences.
- Script Modernization: Refactor and modernize legacy cscript/VBScript into modular, SCCM-ready PowerShell scripts, ensuring improved readability, maintainability, and efficiency.
- Validation: Validate and ensure the proper functioning of OS customization, driver handling, and role/feature installations within the SCCM environment.
- Package Management: Package and validate critical components such as Gemalto smart card drivers and related software.
- Automation & Script Modernization: Audit existing MDT and CFG-AD scripts for PowerShell compatibility, robust logging, effective error handling, and idempotency.
- Update Automation: Update automation scripts to support AD validation, PKI setup, SQL/SCOM installations, and essential role configurations.
- Compatibility: Ensure seamless compatibility with DISM, DSC, and Feature-on-Demand workflows.
- SCCM Task Sequence Development: Build modular and reusable SCCM Task Sequences for both server and workstation builds, integrating PowerShell modules, prestart commands, and necessary packages.
- Standardization: Standardize packaging, version control, and automation workflows to ensure consistency and best practices.
- Testing & Validation: Rigorously test and validate all automation solutions in a dedicated lab environment before production deployment.
- End-to-End Builds: Conduct full end-to-end build tests for critical systems including Domain Controllers, PKI, SCOM, SQL, and Workstations.
- Functionality Validation: Validate critical functionalities such as IPSEC and smart card integration.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive runbooks, detailed deployment documentation, and operational guides to support the implemented solutions.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience with SCCM/Configuration Manager, specifically with advanced Task Sequence development and automation.
- Expert-level proficiency in PowerShell scripting, including modular design principles and automation framework development.
- Proven hands-on experience migrating from MDT to SCCM.
- Strong understanding of Active Directory (AD), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), SCOM, SQL Server, and Windows Server automation.
- Experience with DISM, Desired State Configuration (DSC), Feature-on-Demand, and driver packaging.
- Familiarity with enterprise security components such as PKI, IPSEC, and smart cards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Endpoint Administrator certification or equivalent.
- Experience in automating PKI/CA deployment, Group Policy Object (GPO) deployment, and SQL installations.
Deliverables
- A modernized and comprehensive PowerShell script set.
- SCCM Task Sequences for all specified server and workstation roles.
- Packaged and validated drivers and applications.
- Detailed deployment documentation and operational runbooks.
