Job Title: Mainframe Systems Programmer with deep experience in z/OS

We are looking for a Mainframe Systems Programmer with deep experience in z/OS and ISV technologies. In this role, you’ll take the lead on designing, configuring, and maintaining complex mainframe environments while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to keep systems running at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bring 10-12+ years of hands-on experience working as a Mainframe Systems Programmer in z/OS environments.
  • Handle core system programming functions including configuration, installation, SMP/E maintenance, and deployment of vendor software.
  • Manage operating system upgrades and RSU maintenance using z/OSMF Workflow.
  • Architect, deploy, and optimize sophisticated z/OS infrastructures and related third-party tools.
  • Support initiatives around software standardization and adoption of new features.
  • Collaborate with teams focused on storage, performance, capacity planning, networking, security, and operational procedures all from a z/OS perspective.
  • Work closely with mainframe engineering counterparts to enhance and streamline the overall environment.
  • Mentor teammates, contribute new ideas, troubleshoot issues, and help drive better decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and processes and partner with application teams to support business needs.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Extensive experience with SMP/E and non-SMP/E installations, especially for ISV products.
  • Strong background installing and upgrading IBM and Broadcom software solutions.
  • Deep fluency with z/OS system commands, utilities, and key automation tools.
  • Proven experience upgrading z/OS to V2.5 or later using z/OSMF Workflows.
  • Solid understanding of IODF/HCD for onboarding new devices.
  • Familiarity with Sysplex and configuration management (a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of JCL and IBM utilities (IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, AMASPZAP, DFDSS).
  • Proficient with ISPF/TSO and foundational mainframe tooling.
  • Basic working knowledge of REXX/CLIST scripting.
  • Ability to build detailed project plans (upgrades, maintenance, decommissioning), coordinate tasks across stakeholders, and communicate timelines clearly.
  • Skilled in developing roadmaps and defining prerequisites needed to deliver complex projects successfully.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $70,000 – $120,000 per year (Estimated)
