Job Description: Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer (Substation, Protection & Analysis)

Seeking a Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer to design, analyze, and optimize medium and high voltage electrical systems. The role focuses on power system studies, protection design, and ensuring compliance with industry standards across complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, motor starting, transient stability)
  • Design and review MV/HV electrical systems including substations, transformers, and switchgear
  • Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, grounding plans, and layouts
  • Conduct protective relay coordination and settings development
  • Support system reliability, redundancy, and fault mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, and NESC standards
  • Support arc flash hazard analysis and electrical safety requirements
  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and utility interconnection processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Review technical specifications, vendor submittals, and FATs
  • Provide support during construction, commissioning, and energization
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and engineering documentation

Essential Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering
  • Strong expertise in power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PowerWorld, CYME)
  • Experience in substation design, protection systems, and relay coordination
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NESC)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical / Revit
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward certification
  • Experience in renewable energy, utilities, data centers, or industrial projects
  • Familiarity with grid interconnection and utility processes

Compensation & Location

Salary: $90,000 – $140,000 per year (Estimated)
