Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Database Lead with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, and a solid working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). This is an onsite role located in West Des Moines, Iowa. We are looking for candidates with 13+ years of experience, and a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience.

Database Administration Responsibilities:

  • Datacenter operations / coordination with vendors for rack & stack, maintenance & new service builds.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and manage MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across various environments.
  • Perform query tuning, index optimization, vacuuming, execution plan analysis, and overall performance tuning.
  • Implement and maintain High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions such as AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Replication, Streaming Replication, Patroni, and pgBackRest.
  • Manage database security, roles, permissions, auditing, capacity planning, and storage optimization.
  • Perform backup and restore operations for both SQL Server and PostgreSQL using appropriate strategies and tools.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues related to performance, locks, replication, connectivity, and system-level components.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration Responsibilities:

  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and availability to ensure optimal operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve OS-level issues related to CPU, memory, storage, network, and system services.
  • Manage user accounts, groups, file permissions, sudo access, and system hardening.
  • Configure and maintain system security including firewall settings, SELinux policies, and patch compliance.
  • Configure and troubleshoot core network services: SSH, NTP, DNS, FTP, HTTP.
  • Develop and maintain Bash scripts and Ansible playbooks for automation.
  • Support Linux systems running in VMware, AWS, or Azure cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with application teams for deployments and OS-level incident resolution.
  • Document system builds, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and runbooks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical production incidents.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of hands-on MS SQL / PGSQL DBA experience.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL Server versions.
  • Solid understanding of RHEL administration and Linux troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and automation (Ansible preferred).
  • Knowledge of virtualization (VMware) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Red Hat certification (RHCSA / RHCE).
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience in enterprise production environments.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 per year
