This role requires a seasoned professional with at least 15 years of IT experience and a deep specialization in cloud architecture. As a lead architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions that align with the AWS Well-Architected Framework. This position is strictly for local candidates who can work onsite in the San Diego area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy complex cloud architectures using core AWS services including EC2, EKS, S3, VPC, and IAM.
  • Lead the automation of infrastructure through Terraform for large-scale deployments.
  • Integrate AWS solutions with robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and AWS CodePipeline.
  • Architect and configure Databricks Lakehouse Platforms, ensuring secure workspace setup and Unity Catalog implementation.
  • Implement advanced AI/ML architectures using AWS SageMaker, Bedrock, and Rekognition.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) strategies across multiple AWS regions.
  • Optimize cloud costs by leveraging various pricing models and architectural efficiencies.
  • Manage complex migrations from on-premises environments to AWS using lift-and-shift and re-architecting strategies.

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of total IT experience with 5+ years specifically in Cloud Architecture.
  • Expertise in AWS Networking (VPC, Subnets, Route Tables, NAT, VPN) and Security (KMS, Encryption, IAM policies).
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS, including cluster design and security hardening.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) specifically with Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Serverless architectures including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and EventBridge.
  • Strong knowledge of observability tools like CloudWatch for monitoring and logging.
  • Experience with Databricks AI features such as Model Serving and MLFlow.

Professional Expectations

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills to translate business requirements into technical blueprints. You will serve as a subject matter expert for both cloud infrastructure and data engineering platforms like Databricks. Given the seniority of this role, you are expected to mentor junior engineers and lead technical discussions with stakeholders. This is a long-term engagement requiring a commitment to onsite presence in San Diego.
