Position Summary

GVR Infotek is looking for a talented Frontend Developer with expertise in React and AWS for a 12-month contract with potential for extension. This role is based in Virginia, with a preference for candidates local to McLean or Richmond who can work in a hybrid capacity. A unique and mandatory requirement for this position is previous experience working at Capital One. This “Ex-Capital One” requirement is crucial as it ensures the candidate is already familiar with the specific engineering standards, security protocols, and collaborative culture of the client. Candidates without this specific background will not be considered for this particular engagement. The role is part of a strategic initiative to modernize the client’s digital interface and improve customer engagement through cutting-edge web technologies.

Core Technical Stack

The primary focus of this role is building modern, responsive user experiences using React. Candidates must possess strong hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, as well as a deep understanding of HTML5 and CSS3. The developer will be responsible for designing and developing reusable UI components that are both performant and accessible. Proficiency in modern state management libraries (such as Redux, MobX, or Recoil) and testing frameworks (such as Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress) is highly expected. The goal is to build a robust component library that can be leveraged across multiple applications within the organization, ensuring a consistent look and feel while reducing development time for future projects.

Cloud Integration

A significant portion of the work involves integrating frontend applications with cloud-based backend services hosted on AWS. This requires a solid understanding of how to consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs and manage state in a cloud-native environment. The developer will collaborate closely with backend engineers to ensure seamless data flow and optimal application performance. Familiarity with AWS services such as Amplify, AppSync, or S3 for frontend hosting and deployment is a significant advantage. Understanding how to handle authentication and authorization using AWS Cognito or similar services is also a key part of the integration process, ensuring that user data remains secure at all times.

Agile Methodology

The candidate will work within an Agile/Scrum team, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives. Collaboration is key, as the developer will interact with product teams, UX designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Participation in code reviews and mentoring junior engineers is also expected to maintain high code quality standards. The ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is essential for success in this collaborative environment. The developer must be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting where requirements can evolve, and they must be able to pivot quickly while maintaining a focus on quality and delivery.

Performance and Accessibility

Ensuring that web applications are scalable and accessible to all users is a top priority. The developer must stay current with frontend technology trends and best practices to implement the most efficient solutions. This includes optimizing application load times through techniques like code splitting, lazy loading, and efficient asset management. Ensuring cross-browser compatibility and strictly adhering to WCAG 2.1 guidelines for accessibility is mandatory. The focus is on creating inclusive digital experiences that work for everyone, regardless of their device or ability. This includes implementing proper ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, and ensuring high contrast ratios for visual clarity.

Project Scope and Environment

The project involves standing up a new frontend engineering team dedicated to creating next-generation user interfaces for financial services applications. This is a high-impact role where the developer’s contributions will directly influence the user experience of millions of customers. The hybrid work model in Virginia offers a balance of in-person collaboration and remote flexibility, making it an ideal opportunity for local professionals. The long-term nature of the contract, starting at 12 months with potential extensions, provides a stable and growth-oriented environment for a dedicated frontend specialist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with some of the best engineers in the industry and contribute to a project that is at the forefront of digital banking innovation.
