Position Summary
HMG America LLC is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Java Tech Lead for a critical onsite role in Jersey City, NJ. This position is designed for a technical leader who can manage two distinct squads while working side-by-side with Product Managers to deliver high-quality software solutions. The role requires a full-stack mindset, combining deep Java expertise with strong frontend capabilities in Angular and React. This is a long-term contract opportunity (6-12 months) requiring an immediate onsite presence from day one.
Core Responsibilities
- Autonomously oversee the end-to-end delivery of cross-functional teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and with high predictability.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners (PO) to plan roadmaps, define desired outcomes, and report results to senior stakeholders.
- Act as the primary technical authority for system designs within the team, participating in and leading rigorous design reviews.
- Identify and proactively mitigate technical and architectural risks, including system downtime, data security issues, and technical debt.
- Skillfully negotiate trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality with the Product Owner to ensure a sustainable and efficient delivery process.
- Transform complex project requirements into individual responsibilities and collaborate with team members to create detailed execution plans.
- Monitor team pace and instill a sense of urgency while actively preventing developer burnout.
- Mentor and develop Software Engineers (Levels I and II), providing career management, performance reviews, and promotion guidance.
- Engage in the recruitment process, including conducting technical interviews and assisting with headcount planning.
- Foster a culture of knowledge sharing through workshops, advisory sessions, and participation in cross-team technical initiatives.
Technical Qualifications
- Extensive software development experience, particularly in Java and modern frontend technologies.
- Expertise in Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate.
- Strong frontend development skills using JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, and React.
- Proven background in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and web services.
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
- Familiarity with Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Deep knowledge of DevOps tools and practices, including Jenkins, Git, Maven, and Gradle.
- Knowledge of scripting (Python/Bash), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and microservices architecture.
Leadership and Soft Skills
- Proven leadership experience in delivering complex, large-scale software projects.
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Deep familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Ability to manage multiple squads and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
Special Requirements
Local candidates only; Onsite from day 1; Must manage 2 squads; Full-stack requirement (Java + Angular); 6-12 month duration.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $215,000 per year (Estimated)
