Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled NestJS Backend Architect to lead the design and governance of our next-generation API platform. This is a pivotal role within the New York City Metropolitan Area, requiring a deep technical expert who can bridge the gap between business requirements and high-performance technical execution. As the lead architect, you will be responsible for ensuring that our backend systems are scalable, secure, and aligned with the highest enterprise standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, future-ready backend solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Define and govern the backend architecture for a NestJS-driven API platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of all backend services through rigorous architectural oversight.
  • Work closely with Tech Leads, frontend architects, and integration teams to ensure cohesive system functionality.
  • Translate complex business and platform requirements into robust, future-ready technical solutions.
  • Provide architectural oversight for NextJS integration, ensuring seamless communication between frontend and backend components.
  • Own all backend architectural decisions and provide technical direction for the engineering teams.
  • Drive architecture reviews, design governance, and the establishment of technical standards across the organization.

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript and the Node.js runtime environment.
  • Deep architectural expertise in the NestJS framework and advanced TypeScript development.
  • Proven experience in designing large-scale, API-first backend architectures and microservices.
  • Strong expertise in RESTful API design patterns, versioning, and governance.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB, including data modeling, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures on AWS, Azure, or GCP and platform engineering concepts.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing standards.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Guide and mentor Tech Leads and senior engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence.
  • Lead client-facing architectural discussions and present technical strategies to executive stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with enterprise and solution architects to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively, ensuring clear communication and alignment across distributed teams.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scaled Agile (SAFe) delivery models.

Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs)

  • Focus on performance, security, scalability, and resilience patterns in high-traffic environments.
  • Define and govern API documentation standards using Swagger or OpenAPI.
  • Establish standards for unit testing, integration testing, and overall code quality.
  • Design patterns for BFF (Backend for Frontend), microservices, or modular monoliths as appropriate.

Job Type: C2C/W2. Location: New York City Metropolitan Area (Onsite).


Compensation & Location

Salary: $190,000 – $250,000 per year (Estimated)
