Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Developer for a critical 12-month contract position based onsite in Omaha, Nebraska. This role requires a seasoned professional with over 14 years of dedicated experience in mainframe environments, specifically within the transportation or logistics sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing complex enterprise applications that form the backbone of large-scale supply systems.
Technical Requirements
- CICS Mastery: Extensive experience with Customer Information Control System (CICS) is mandatory. You must demonstrate the ability to manage high-volume online transaction processing and ensure system stability under heavy loads.
- COBOL Development: Proficiency in COBOL is essential for writing and maintaining robust business logic within the mainframe ecosystem.
- Database Management: Strong hands-on experience with IMS (DB/DC) and DB2 database management systems is required to handle hierarchical and relational data structures effectively.
- JCL and Batch Processing: Advanced skills in Job Control Language (JCL) are necessary for creating job scripts, managing batch processing, and optimizing system resource utilization.
- SQL and Assembler: Competency in SQL for database queries and optimization is highly desired. Familiarity with Assembler language is considered a significant advantage.
Responsibilities and Expectations
As a Senior Developer, you will be expected to demonstrate mastery of mainframe development fundamentals while tackling intricate technical challenges. Your responsibilities will include analyzing complex systems, solving intricate problems, and independently debugging application issues to ensure zero-defect delivery. A key component of this role is participation in a monthly on-call schedule to maintain system reliability and production standards. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with the Union Pacific ecosystem or similar large-scale supply chain environments is highly beneficial for this engagement.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year
