Position Summary: Machine Learning Engineer (Automotive)
Absolute IT is recruiting for a Machine Learning Engineer with specialized experience in the Automotive domain for a high-growth department in Los Altos, CA. This role offers a hybrid work schedule with 90% remote flexibility, though candidates must be local to the Los Altos area for onsite collaboration. The position is designed for an engineer who can bridge the gap between rapid prototyping and robust, production-level implementation of advanced AI models.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Develop and fine-tune large-scale foundation models, including VLMs and text-to-video models.
- Implement distributed training and high-performance optimization techniques such as quantization, mixed precision, and model parallelism (FSDP).
- Utilize PyTorch extensively for computer vision and behavior learning tasks.
- Build and maintain robust data pipelines and model serving infrastructures.
- Apply software development best practices, including unit testing, CI/CD, and dependency management using Python.
- Analyze and implement research papers to develop innovative projects within the automotive AI space.
- Collaborate with mixed teams of research scientists and engineers to deploy models on embodied systems or robotic platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of professional ML engineering experience at an AI/ML-focused organization.
- Mandatory experience within the Automotive industry or with auto maker ML projects.
- Strong proficiency in Python and extensive practical experience with PyTorch.
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art behavior learning, language models (LLMs), and computer vision.
- Experience with cloud-based training and dataset management (Amazon EC2, S3, Sagemaker).
- Ability to provide proof of local residency in the Los Altos/California area.
Work Schedule and Interview Process
The hiring manager offers two flexible hybrid options: a 4-day workweek (10-hour days) with Fridays off, or a standard workweek with 2 days remote and 2 days onsite. The initial interview mode will be via Skype. Please note that a rigorous screening process is in place to verify hands-on skills and ensure candidates are not utilizing AI tools to misrepresent their technical capabilities. Candidates must provide a LinkedIn profile and proof of location.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $195,000 – $265,000 per year (Estimated)
