Role Summary: Data Governance Lead
The Data Governance Lead for Payment and Transaction Banking is a critical leadership role responsible for embedding robust, scalable data governance practices across complex banking platforms. This position involves partnering with delivery, architecture, and business teams to ensure that data standards, models, lineage, quality, and privacy controls are consistently applied across modern payment ecosystems. The lead will enable regulatory-ready and analytics-ready data foundations within large-scale, agile delivery environments, specifically focusing on the Tri-State financial sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed data governance guardrails into agile delivery lifecycles, including feature design, acceptance criteria, and release planning.
- Act as the primary Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) for multiple teams working on payment platforms and data products.
- Define and maintain domain-level canonical and conceptual data models for Payment and Transaction Banking.
- Ensure consistent application of payment data standards (e.g., ISO 20022) across platforms supporting clearing, settlement, liquidity, and reconciliation.
- Drive end-to-end data lineage and metadata capture across payment data pipelines, ensuring clear business definitions and ownership.
- Define domain-specific data quality rules and controls aligned with regulatory, risk, and operational requirements.
- Oversee the classification and handling of sensitive customer data to ensure compliance with global privacy regulations.
- Analyze audit findings to identify governance gaps and strengthen domain-level control frameworks.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 13+ years of professional experience with a strong focus on Payment / Transaction Banking domains.
- Deep exposure to payment rails such as Real-Time Payments (RTP), ACH, SWIFT, clearing, and settlement.
- Advanced expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, including semantic modeling for analytics.
- Proven experience implementing automated data quality rules, controls, and validation frameworks within large-scale ecosystems.
- Solid understanding of data privacy, sensitive data handling, and regulatory expectations in a global banking environment.
- Experience working in complex, regulatory-aware organizations using Agile or Scaled Agile (SAFe) delivery models.
Preferred Expertise
- Familiarity with industry data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or COBIT.
- Experience supporting ISO 20022 migrations or large-scale payment data modernization initiatives.
- Knowledge of data observability and monitoring practices to assess pipeline health and reliability.
- Exposure to advanced modeling techniques such as Data Vault or graph-based models.
Special Requirements
Domain restriction: Payment / Transaction Banking; 13+ years experience required; Knowledge of ISO 20022 and modern payment rails.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $175,000 – $245,000 per year (Estimated)
