Role Overview: Rhapsody Health Integration Specialist
The State of Michigan is currently seeking two highly skilled Software Solutions Architects to join the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) team. These positions are critical to the ongoing development and operational excellence of the Enterprise Service Bus (HESB), specifically focusing on Rhapsody Health Integration (version 7.x). The team is looking for one candidate with a primary focus on development and another with a focus on operations and administration, though both roles share a common technical foundation and rate structure.
Technical Environment and Responsibilities
As a Rhapsody Developer or Administrator, you will be at the forefront of healthcare interoperability. Your primary responsibility will be to design, develop, and maintain robust integration solutions that facilitate the seamless exchange of healthcare data across various state systems. This includes working with the Rhapsody Developer Kit (RDK) to build custom filters and mappers tailored to the specific needs of the MDHHS. You will be responsible for translating complex healthcare message formats, including HL7 v2, HL7 v3, FHIR, CCDA, XML, and JSON, ensuring that data is accurately and securely transmitted between systems.
- Design and implement enterprise-level healthcare integration workflows using Rhapsody 7.x.
- Develop custom JavaScript filters (JS v1 & v2) and mapping logic to handle complex data transformations.
- Manage and support a variety of connection protocols, including SOAP/REST APIs, TCP, LLP, HTTP, and OAuth.
- Ensure the security of all integrations through the implementation of TLS and certificate-based authentication.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create comprehensive technical designs, system architecture diagrams, and SDLC documentation.
- Provide high-level support for critical healthcare systems such as MDSS, MCIR, EDRS, MiHIN, and MPHI.
Required Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with the Rhapsody Integration Engine, specifically version 7.x. A deep understanding of healthcare messaging standards and interoperability is essential. Candidates should be proficient in JavaScript, SQL, and XML, and have a proven track record of developing web services using SOAP and REST. Familiarity with healthcare vocabularies such as LOINC, SNOMED, and RxNorm is highly desirable, as is experience with Health Information Exchange (HIE) and IHE integrations. While not mandatory, a Rhapsody Certification is strongly preferred and will be considered a significant advantage.
Work Environment and Submission Guidelines
This is a hybrid position located in Lansing, MI, requiring at least two days of onsite presence per week. There is no remote-only option available for this role, and non-local candidates must be willing to relocate at their own expense. The initial contract duration is one year, with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The interview process will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams. Please note that a candidate photo is required for the interview, and the vendor must be present at the start of the interview for validation purposes. Resumes should be limited to 4-5 pages and must include the candidate’s legal first and last name only. Submissions must include a cover sheet, a signed Right to Represent (acknowledging the hybrid requirement), and completed pre-screening questions indicating the candidate’s preference for the Developer, Admin, or both roles.
