Role Overview

The State of Michigan is actively seeking two highly specialized Software Solution Architects to support the Rhapsody Health Development and Operations activities. This is a critical hybrid role based in Lansing, MI, requiring a presence in the office at least two days per week. The project is slated for an initial duration of one year with a high probability of extension based on performance and project needs. The selected candidates will be divided into two primary focuses: one centered on core Development and the other on Operational/Administrative functions. Both roles require an identical high-level skill set but differ in their daily execution and focus areas within the Rhapsody ecosystem.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement complex healthcare integration solutions using the latest Health Rhapsody Integration Engine (version 7.x).
  • Utilize the Rhapsody Developer Kit (RDK) to engineer custom filters, mappers, and specialized components that extend the native capabilities of the engine.
  • Perform sophisticated message payload translations, converting data between disparate formats such as HL7, XML, JSON, and various proprietary or legacy formats used by state health systems.
  • Configure and manage secure transport protocols including SOAP, REST, OAUTH, and TCP-connections, ensuring seamless interoperability between internal and external endpoints.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous security standards for data in transit, utilizing TLS encryption and mutual authorization via digital certificates.
  • For the Admin-focused role: Monitor engine performance, manage environment stability, handle deployment cycles, and troubleshoot infrastructure-level bottlenecks.
  • For the Developer-focused role: Lead the creation of complex routing logic, data mapping, and custom coding within the Rhapsody environment to support evolving public health data requirements.

Strategic Impact

As a Solution Architect, you will be at the forefront of Michigan’s public health data infrastructure. Your work ensures that vital health information flows accurately and securely between providers, laboratories, and state agencies. This role requires not just technical proficiency but a deep understanding of healthcare data standards and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to define integration patterns that support long-term scalability and maintainability.

Professional Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate several years of hands-on experience with the Rhapsody Integration Engine. The ability to work in a hybrid environment and adapt to the specific procedural requirements of a state government entity is essential. While technical skills are paramount, the role also demands strong communication skills to bridge the gap between technical implementation and clinical/business objectives. Rhapsody Certification is highly preferred and will be considered a significant advantage during the selection process.

Special Requirements

Hybrid – 2 days a week; State of Michigan project; Rhapsody Certification preferred; Two positions available (Dev focused and Admin focused).
