Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Release Train Engineer (RTE) for a high-impact hybrid role in Sacramento, California. This position is central to the success of our Agile Release Train (ART), requiring a leader who can effectively navigate the complexities of a multi-team environment. The RTE acts as a servant leader and coach for the ART, facilitating major events and processes, and assisting the teams in delivering value. You will be responsible for driving continuous improvement and ensuring that the SAFe framework is applied effectively across 4-5 delivery teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Facilitate the PI Planning process, including the creation of calendars, readiness activities, and the execution of the event itself.
- Coach teams and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets, fostering an environment of transparency and high performance.
- Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various tools, including Program Kanban and ServiceNow Scaled Agile Framework modules.
- Identify and resolve systemic impediments, manage risks, and coordinate dependencies across teams and external vendors.
- Facilitate ART-level ceremonies such as Syncs, System Demos, and the Inspect and Adapt workshop.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, and Business Owners to ensure alignment between strategy and execution.
- Track and report on ART progress using metrics like PI burnup charts and program predictability measures to drive data-driven improvements.
- Provide oversight for release planning and cross-team coordination in a complex, multi-vendor cloud environment.
Strategic Leadership
The RTE is more than a facilitator; you are a strategic partner in the organization’s digital transformation. You will interact with executive leadership and enterprise architects to ensure the ART’s output aligns with broader business objectives. In this role, you will be expected to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority, requiring exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Your ability to manage the ‘Risks, Issues, Action Items, and Decisions’ (RAID) log will be critical in maintaining the health and predictability of the train.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate must possess a SAFe Release Train Engineer 6.0 (RTE) and SAFe Practice Consultant 6.0 (SPC) certification. A minimum of 4 years of experience specifically as an RTE managing multiple teams is required, supplemented by at least 2 years as a SAFe Scrum Master. Experience in the public sector or healthcare domain is highly desirable, as is a deep understanding of ServiceNow’s Agile modules. Candidates must be local to Sacramento or willing to relocate, as this is a hybrid position requiring regular on-site presence.
Special Requirements
Must have LinkedIn; Hybrid (Local only); SAFe RTE 6.0 and SPC 6.0 certifications are a must; Public Sector and Healthcare experience preferred.
