Role Overview
The Lead Java Developer position is a high-impact technical leadership role within the banking and financial services sector. We are seeking a seasoned professional with over 12 years of experience to drive the development of mission-critical, high-performance banking applications. This role is based onsite in either Charlotte, NC, or Edison, NJ, and requires a candidate who can blend deep technical expertise in the Java ecosystem with a thorough understanding of financial regulations and high-volume transaction processing. As we move into 2026, the complexity of banking systems continues to evolve, requiring leaders who can navigate microservices architectures, cloud-native deployments, and stringent security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design, architecture, and development of enterprise-grade banking applications using Java 8+ and Spring Boot.
- Architect scalable, secure, and high-availability systems that can handle millions of transactions with minimal latency.
- Provide technical mentorship to a team of developers, conducting rigorous code reviews and enforcing industry best practices.
- Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and Stakeholders to translate complex financial requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Ensure all software development adheres to banking regulations and security standards, including KYC, AML, SOX, and PCI-DSS.
- Optimize application performance, focusing on transaction handling, data integrity, and system reliability.
- Manage production releases and provide expert-level support for critical incident resolution in a high-pressure environment.
- Drive the adoption of modern CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, and Git to ensure rapid and reliable software delivery.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 12-15 years of professional experience in Java development, with at least 5 years in a leadership or tech lead capacity.
- Expert-level proficiency in Core Java (OOPs, Multithreading, Collections) and the Spring Framework (Boot, MVC, Security).
- Proven experience in designing and implementing Microservices Architecture and RESTful APIs.
- Strong database expertise with Oracle, DB2, or PostgreSQL, including advanced ORM techniques using Hibernate or JPA.
- Hands-on experience with messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka, JMS, or MQ.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
Banking Domain Expertise
- Extensive experience within the Banking or Financial Services industry is mandatory.
- In-depth knowledge of Core Banking Systems and payment processing protocols such as SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, and RTGS.
- Experience working with financial products including Loans, Accounts, and Trade Finance.
- Understanding of the regulatory landscape and the technical implications of financial compliance.
Leadership and Soft Skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage complex project modules.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical business users.
- A strong ownership mindset with a focus on production stability and continuous improvement.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under tight deadlines.
Additional Information
This is a contract-based role requiring a full-time onsite presence at our offices in Charlotte, NC, or Edison, NJ. Candidates must be eligible to work under TN Visa status or be US Citizens/Green Card holders as per the specific visa constraints of this requirement. Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $205,000 per year (Estimated)
