Role Overview
Sierra Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a highly skilled and visionary Machine Learning Engineer to join our team onsite in Dallas, Texas. This is a long-term contract engagement designed for a professional who has spent over a decade honing their craft in the software engineering landscape. As the AI field evolves, our clients require robust, scalable, and intelligent solutions that can handle complex customer interactions with human-like precision. You will be at the forefront of digital transformation, utilizing Vertex AI and Dialogflow to build intelligent chatbots that redefine customer engagement for global leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop scalable Virtual Agent frameworks using Google Vertex AI and the Agent Development Kit (ADK).
- Optimize conversational flows within Dialogflow CX/ES, focusing on intent detection, context management, and slot filling.
- Implement state-of-the-art NLP, LLM, and GenAI models to enhance chatbot capabilities like summarization and entity extraction.
- Maintain cloud-native infrastructure using GCP services including Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, and BigQuery.
- Deploy Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines to improve agent intelligence and response accuracy.
- Apply MLOps best practices using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows for automated testing and monitoring.
- Develop robust REST APIs and gRPC communications for seamless system integration with CRMs and live agent systems.
- Lead technical discussions and ensure that AI solutions align with broader business goals and security standards.
Technical Stack and Environment
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem. You will be working extensively with Vertex AI Agent Engine to create sophisticated agents that can handle multi-turn conversations. Your expertise in Python will be critical as you utilize libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face to fine-tune transformer models. The project environment is fast-paced and requires a developer who is comfortable with cloud-native architectures and real-time data processing. You will leverage BigQuery for analytics and reporting, ensuring that every interaction provides valuable insights to the business.
MLOps and Deployment Excellence
Beyond just building models, you must ensure they are production-ready. This means applying rigorous MLOps practices. You will automate training and deployment pipelines using Vertex AI Pipelines, containerize applications with Docker, and manage orchestration via Kubernetes. Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) are the standards by which we deliver high-quality software. You will be responsible for versioning models and monitoring their performance in real-time to ensure reliability and scalability.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 12 years of overall professional experience in software engineering.
- At least 6 years of dedicated software development experience, with 4+ years focused on NLP/NLU for chat systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks.
- Proven track record of building production-grade conversational agents on GCP.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and MLOps pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Skills and Education
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related quantitative field.
- Google Cloud Certified Professional Machine Learning Engineer credential.
- Experience with Generative AI frameworks like PaLM or Gemini.
- Background in integrating AI systems with CRM platforms and live agent helpdesks.
- Knowledge of security protocols and compliance standards specific to AI and data privacy.
