Role Overview

The Senior Visual Designer position is a pivotal role designed for a creative professional who excels at translating complex brand strategies into compelling visual narratives. Located onsite in either Mountain View or San Diego, CA, this long-term contract opportunity offers the chance to work at the forefront of digital innovation. As a Senior Visual Designer, you will be responsible for the high-level aesthetic direction of our products, ensuring that every pixel aligns with our core brand values and enhances the overall user journey. This role requires a deep understanding of how visual elements influence user behavior and a commitment to maintaining design excellence across all platforms. You will be expected to bring a sophisticated eye for detail and a passion for creating seamless, beautiful interfaces that resonate with a global audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptualization and execution of visual designs for web and mobile interfaces, ensuring a cohesive look and feel across the entire product ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with UX designers to translate wireframes and user flows into high-fidelity visual mockups that are both beautiful and functional.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive design systems, including style guides, component libraries, and brand assets to ensure consistency across multiple teams.
  • Apply advanced principles of color theory, typography, and layout to create engaging visual content that captures user attention and drives interaction.
  • Present design concepts to stakeholders and cross-functional teams, articulating the rationale behind visual choices and how they support business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in visual design to keep our products competitive and modern.
  • Mentor junior designers, providing constructive feedback and guidance to foster a culture of continuous learning and creative growth.
  • Oversee the production of visual assets, ensuring they are optimized for various devices and screen resolutions.
  • Work with marketing teams to ensure that product visuals align with broader brand campaigns and messaging.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in visual design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in digital product design.
  • Expert-level proficiency in design software, specifically Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and modern UI tools like Figma or Sketch.
  • Exceptional understanding of typography, including hierarchy, pairing, and custom lettering.
  • Strong grasp of color theory and its psychological impact on user experience and brand perception.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure design feasibility.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex design decisions to non-designers.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Tools and Technologies

  • Adobe Photoshop: Used for advanced image manipulation and creating detailed visual assets.
  • Adobe Illustrator: Essential for vector-based illustrations, iconography, and logo design.
  • Adobe InDesign: Utilized for layout design and complex document structures.
  • Figma/Sketch: Primary tools for interface design and collaborative prototyping.
  • Prototyping Tools: Experience with Principle, Framer, or InVision to bring static designs to life.

Work Environment and Benefits

This is an onsite position requiring the candidate to be based in California. The role offers a long-term contract duration, providing stability and the opportunity to see projects through from conception to launch. Candidates must be local to California to be considered for this role, as onsite collaboration is a core component of our design process. Compensation & Location

Salary: $135,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
