Role Overview

The Software Solution Architect will be a pivotal member of the technical team supporting the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This role is specifically designed to oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of methodologies that enable the Health Services Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) to track message transmissions effectively. The architect will provide critical services that support interfaces for various systems connecting to the state’s Data Hub. This position requires a deep understanding of the Rhapsody Integration Engine and the ability to work within a complex, cross-matrix environment involving DTMB Customer Services and MDHHS stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex integration problems within the Rhapsody environment and provide robust, scalable solutions.
  • Perform hands-on code debugging and implement enhancements to existing integration flows.
  • Manage Rhapsody maintenance tasks, including server patches and application restarts to ensure high availability.
  • Oversee the renewal and installation of HESB Server certificates and application-specific certificates to maintain secure connections.
  • Monitor and manage error and hold queues, reprocessing messages as necessary to maintain data integrity.
  • Respond to Rhapsody alerts promptly, taking corrective actions to prevent system downtime.
  • Generate comprehensive performance reports, including latency and response time metrics, and produce monthly status reports for leadership.
  • Execute code migrations to production environments and lead Rhapsody version upgrades, including all associated testing phases.
  • Collaborate with end-users and external application teams to resolve connectivity or data translation issues.
  • Manage Rhapsody memory and storage resources to optimize engine performance.

Technical Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess a strong foundation in healthcare IT standards and modern programming languages. Required skills include:

  • Expertise in JavaScript programming for custom filter and mapper development.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and XML for message structure definition.
  • In-depth knowledge of HL7 version 2.x messaging and the emerging HL7 FHIR standards.
  • Experience with CDA standards and various healthcare document types.
  • Familiarity with healthcare vocabularies such as LOINC, SNOMED, and RxNorm.
  • Hands-on experience with Health Information Exchange (HIE) technology and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles.
  • Ability to implement solutions based on complex Implementation Guides.

Desired Rhapsody Expertise

  • Experience with the latest Health Rhapsody Integration Engine (version 7.x).
  • Utilization of the Rhapsody Developer Kit (RDK) to build custom components.
  • Advanced message payload translation across formats like JSON, XML, and HL7.
  • Proficiency in web services (SOAP, REST), OAUTH, and transport protocols (TCP, LLP).
  • Strong understanding of transport encryption and security, including TLS and mutual certificate authorization.

Impact and Collaboration

This role is integral to the success of the MDHHS Enterprise ISA technical team. By streamlining critical business processes and ensuring data integrity, the architect supports major applications such as MDSS, EDRS, myHB/myHP, MCIR, MiHIN, and MPHI. The absence of a dedicated administrator for these systems would significantly delay prioritized enhancements and maintenance, impacting the state’s ability to deliver essential health services. The architect will also provide application oversight to business analysts and other integration teams, ensuring a cohesive approach to the Health Enterprise Service Bus architecture.

Special Requirements

Virtual Interview via MS Teams. Hybrid (2 days/week). No remote only. Local/Non-local (relocate at own expense).
