Position Summary
Source Infotech is looking for a talented Java Developer for a long-term contract opportunity in West Des Moines, IA. This role is specifically for local candidates who can attend a face-to-face interview and work on-site for the first 90 days. Following the initial training and ramp-up period, the role transitions to a hybrid schedule (3 days on-site). The primary focus of this position is to assist in a major commercial renewal database migration project, involving the creation of a brand-new rules-based application to process commercial renewals and integrate with existing workflow systems.
Core Responsibilities
- Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional, high-performing FBL applications.
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code.
- Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications through rigorous testing and optimization.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and bugs, and devise creative solutions to mitigate these issues.
- Maintain high standards of code quality, organization, and automatization.
- Develop reusable code libraries for future use across the organization.
- Implement scalable application designs following fundamental architectural principles.
- Work on database migration tasks, specifically moving data and logic from Microsoft Access and legacy systems to modern SQL environments.
- Develop front-end components using VueJS, HTML, and CSS to ensure a modern user experience.
Technical Stack and Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in Java development.
- Proficiency in Java, SQL, and web technologies including HTML and CSS.
- Hands-on experience with VueJS for front-end development.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access and legacy database migration strategies.
- Deep understanding of various design and architectural patterns (MVC, Microservices, etc.).
- Knowledge of class loading mechanisms and JVM internals.
- Experience with .Net, Mobile, or Reporting/Analytics is a plus but not required.
Additional Requirements
- Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with the project team.
- Must be a local candidate with a valid Driver’s License (DL).
- Ability to pass a technical assessment where location tracking is utilized to verify local presence.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $110,000 – $150,000 per year (Estimated)
