Role Overview: Senior Site Reliability Engineer
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Consultant for a high-impact, hybrid role based in New York City. This position requires a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in the technology sector, specifically within high-stakes environments such as financial services or brokerage. As a consultant, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our critical trading and data processing systems. This role is designed for a technical leader who can bridge the gap between software engineering and systems operations, utilizing automation to eliminate manual toil and enhance system resilience.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the SRE team in developing and implementing sophisticated enhancements to support workflows, with a primary focus on end-to-end automation and operational efficiency.
- Handle complex technical escalations, troubleshooting intricate FIX protocol and API connectivity issues that impact trading operations.
- Actively participate in on-call rotations during non-traditional hours to ensure rapid response and resolution for global market sessions.
- Administer and strictly adhere to incident and change management policies to maintain system integrity.
- Coordinate incident resolution efforts and implement robust change management protocols to enhance overall system reliability.
- Collaborate closely with international offices, including our Lithuania location, to ensure seamless operation and alignment of SRE practices across multiple time zones.
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive observability stack, including monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions to provide deep insights into system performance.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to define clear Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Manage error budgets effectively to ensure service reliability meets stringent business requirements.
- Conduct thorough Incident Post Mortems and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence of system failures.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 15+ years of total experience in IT, with at least 5+ years specifically in a Senior SRE or similar reliability-focused role.
- Deep expertise in the FIX Protocol, including the ability to read and interpret FIX logs for troubleshooting trading issues.
- Strong proficiency in Python and scripting for automation, with a proven track record of building custom tooling.
- Expertise in SQL and transactional databases, including advanced querying and performance tuning.
- In-depth knowledge of core networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing, and DNS.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and co-location (colo) environments.
- Familiarity with job scheduling and orchestration tools like Rundeck and Apache Airflow.
- Experience with containerization technologies including Kubernetes and OpenShift.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience in the brokerage or financial industry is highly preferred.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $195,000 – $275,000 per year (Estimated)
