Position Summary
We are seeking a Lead Node.js Developer to spearhead the development of scalable backend services and provide expert-level production support. This role is a hybrid position based in either San Francisco, CA or Frisco, TX, requiring three days onsite per week. As a technical leader, you will be responsible for the architecture and implementation of backend systems using Node.js and TypeScript, ensuring high availability and performance. You will also play a key role in sustainment, incident management, and root cause analysis to maintain the integrity of our production environments.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Implement and maintain frameworks such as Nest.js, Express, or Fastify.
- Architect and optimize the BFF (Backend for Frontend) layer for React integration.
- Design robust APIs using REST and GraphQL (Apollo, gRPC).
- Manage cloud infrastructure primarily within Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Docker and Kubernetes (GKE).
- Utilize Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate environment provisioning.
- Oversee data storage solutions including PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL, Firestore, and MongoDB.
- Implement caching strategies using Redis or Memorystore to enhance application performance.
Production Support and Observability
- Provide high-level production support, incident management, and detailed root cause analysis.
- Configure and monitor system health using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, and Splunk.
- Utilize Cloud Logging and Cloud Monitoring for proactive issue detection and resolution.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or Jenkins, supporting canary and blue-green deployments.
- Ensure application security through OAuth2, JWT, and regular vulnerability scanning/patching.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with a focus on Node.js.
- 2+ years of experience in sustainment, production support, or SRE-related roles.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in complex distributed systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Familiarity with API Gateway management and rate-limiting strategies.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and drive architectural decisions.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Candidates must be located near San Francisco, CA or Frisco, TX.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $160,000 – $210,000 per year (Estimated)
