Position Summary

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is seeking a Senior Business Process Reengineer to join the Office of Educational Supports (OES). This critical role is designed to support the enhancement and sustainability of the Consolidated Application within the NexSys platform. NexSys is a vital system used for the administration of federal formula grants to Michigan Local Education Agencies (LEAs). The successful candidate will serve as a strategic bridge between business units, technical teams, and external vendors, ensuring that all processes are optimized for efficiency and compliance with federal regulations. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Lansing, MI, for at least two days per week.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and documentation of existing grant management processes and workflows to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives by assessing the impact of federal policy changes and translating those impacts into actionable system updates.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the OES, regional field consultants, various MDE offices, the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), and third-party vendors.
  • Facilitate high-level stakeholder meetings, workshops, and requirement gathering sessions to ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Manage the lifecycle of enhancement requests and operational tickets using Azure DevOps, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication of risks.
  • Translate complex business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements for development teams.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior business analysts, delegating tasks and tracking deliverables to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Oversee Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities from initial requirements gathering through to final implementation and post-launch support.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation standards within SharePoint, ensuring all decisions and process changes are transparent and accessible to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in Business Process Reengineering (BPR) within a complex organizational environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience working specifically with grant management systems or government-funded programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and project management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in cross-functional team environments.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Technical proficiency with Azure DevOps, SharePoint, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $115,000 – $165,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Lansing, MI
