Role Overview
Charter Communications is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior AI Engineer to lead their Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and Conversational AI initiatives. This role is critical in designing and implementing scalable Large Language Model (LLM) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions that handle high-volume customer interactions across multiple channels. As a lead engineer, you will drive the architecture, establish best practices, and foster innovation within the voice AI ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of how AI can transform customer service experiences in the telecommunications industry, specifically focusing on making interactions more natural, efficient, and helpful.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop sophisticated AI-driven IVR and conversational systems using Python as the core development language.
- Build and optimize high-performance English-Spanish translation systems to serve a diverse customer base effectively.
- Perform complex data analysis using SQL on large-scale IVR and interaction datasets to derive actionable insights and improve model performance.
- Design and deploy advanced LLM workflows, including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and comprehensive evaluation frameworks for both voice and chat use cases.
- Lead the development of agentic AI workflows capable of managing multi-step, complex customer interactions with high autonomy.
- Establish and maintain LLMOps best practices, covering the entire lifecycle from monitoring and evaluation to deployment and scaling.
- Partner closely with IVR platform teams, speech engineering specialists, and product managers to align AI solutions with business goals.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior AI engineers and offshore development teams, ensuring high-quality code and architectural integrity.
Technical Requirements and Experience
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning development.
- Exceptional proficiency in Python and its scientific ecosystem, including NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and XGBoost.
- Proven expertise in NLP techniques such as text classification, clustering, and sentiment analysis.
- Hands-on experience with modern LLM frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, and the OpenAI SDK.
- Familiarity with vector databases such as FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate, or Qdrant for efficient information retrieval.
- Knowledge of LLMOps and MLOps tools like MLflow, Weights & Biases, BentoML, or Airflow for production-grade AI systems.
- Experience with data management and SQL databases like Oracle, MySQL, or SQLAlchemy.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $210,000 per year (Estimated)
