Position Overview: Senior Lead Engineer (Node.js & TypeScript)
Convex Tech Inc. is seeking a visionary Senior Lead Engineer to spearhead our backend development initiatives. This hybrid role, based in either San Francisco, CA or Frisco, TX, is designed for a technical leader who excels in building scalable, resilient, and high-performance services using Node.js and TypeScript. As a Lead Engineer, you will not only write code but also architect the future of our digital platforms, ensuring that our sustainment and production support operations are world-class. In the tech landscape of 2026, the ability to manage complex microservices and cloud-native infrastructures is paramount, and this role puts you at the center of that evolution.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Architect and develop robust backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and frameworks like Nest.js, Express, or Fastify.
- Design and implement efficient BFF (Backend for Frontend) layers to ensure seamless integration with React-based frontend applications.
- Lead production support and incident management efforts, performing deep root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurring issues in high-traffic environments.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated API strategies, including REST and GraphQL (Apollo), while managing API Gateways and rate-limiting policies.
- Leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including GKE (Kubernetes), Cloud SQL, and Firestore, to build scalable infrastructure.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and manage CI/CD pipelines via GitLab CI or Jenkins to support canary and blue-green deployments.
- Utilize advanced monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, and Prometheus to ensure proactive issue detection and system health.
Leadership and Strategic Impact
As a Senior Lead Engineer, your influence extends beyond the codebase. You will be responsible for stakeholder management, translating business requirements into technical roadmaps, and mentoring a team of talented engineers. You will champion security best practices, including OAuth2 and JWT implementations, and oversee vulnerability scanning and patching protocols. Your role is critical in maintaining the balance between rapid feature delivery and the long-term stability of the platform. By fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement, you will help Convex Tech Inc. deliver next-generation solutions to our diverse client base.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of intensive experience in backend development with a focus on Node.js and TypeScript.
- 2+ years of experience in sustainment, production support, or SRE-adjacent roles.
- Expertise in cloud environments, specifically GCP (Google Cloud Platform), including Docker and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Strong understanding of both SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Firestore) data stores, along with caching strategies using Redis.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams through complex troubleshooting and architectural decision-making processes.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage expectations across various business units.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $190,000 – $250,000 per year (Estimated)
