Position Summary: Senior MongoDB Database Administrator

Novia Infotech is seeking a highly experienced Senior MongoDB DBA to lead the design, configuration, and optimization of enterprise-scale database environments. This role is critical for maintaining the health and performance of our data infrastructure across our Sunnyvale, CA and Austin, TX locations. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in MongoDB architecture, specifically focusing on sharded clusters, replica sets, and high-security implementations within Linux and AWS environments.

Core Responsibilities and Technical Leadership

  • Cluster Architecture: Design and configure multi-node MongoDB replica sets and complex sharded clusters. You will be responsible for converting replica sets to sharded clusters to support massive data growth.
  • Sharding Strategy: Implement sophisticated range-based and hash-based sharding strategies, ensuring even data distribution through optimal shard key selection.
  • Ops Manager Administration: Configure and manage MongoDB Ops Manager, including Backup & Restore Service (BRS) and cluster onboarding.
  • Security Implementation: Enforce enterprise-grade security using X509 authentication and TLS/SSL encryption across all mongod instances.
  • Performance Tuning: Analyze query plans and optimize performance at the host and database levels, including the creation of text indexes for search optimization.
  • Cloud Migration: Lead the migration of MongoDB clusters to AWS, ensuring seamless deployment and tuning in cloud-based environments.
  • Automation: Develop Python scripts to automate backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery processes.

Technical Requirements and Skills

The successful candidate must have a proven track record of managing large-scale production MongoDB environments. Essential skills include in-depth knowledge of MongoDB replication architecture, strong Linux administration experience, and proficiency in scripting languages like Python. You must be comfortable performing major version upgrades (e.g., 4.0 to 4.x) and operating within secure, compliance-heavy enterprise frameworks. The role requires a proactive approach to monitoring cluster health and the ability to document complex security configurations and audit processes for stakeholders.

Work Environment and Expectations

This is a high-impact role requiring 5 days per week onsite presence at our California or Texas offices. Candidates must be able to work during PST hours to align with our core engineering teams. We are looking for a professional who can independently manage database projects, resolve high-priority risks, and provide technical guidance on database scalability. The interview process will include telephonic and video assessments to evaluate both technical depth and communication skills.

Special Requirements

Interview: Telephonic / video. 5 Days/Week Onsite. PST Hours Required.
