Role Overview
The Senior QE Automation Engineer (Playwright) is a critical role within our enterprise engineering team, specifically focused on the robust delivery of high-performance web applications. Located onsite in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, this contract position requires a local candidate who can collaborate directly with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards of software quality. As a senior member of the Quality Engineering department, you will be responsible for the architectural design and implementation of automated testing frameworks that leverage the Playwright toolset. This role demands a deep understanding of modern web technologies and a commitment to shifting quality left in the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain sophisticated automated test scripts using Playwright to ensure the stability and performance of enterprise-grade web applications.
- Architect scalable automation frameworks that can be reused across multiple portfolios and business units, ensuring long-term maintainability.
- Integrate automated testing suites into modern CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or Azure DevOps to facilitate continuous testing and rapid deployment cycles.
- Collaborate closely with Software Developers, Business Analysts, and QE Leads to define comprehensive test strategies, ensuring maximum test coverage for complex business logic.
- Execute a wide range of testing types, including functional, regression, end-to-end, and performance validation for intricate system workflows.
- Perform detailed API testing (REST) and cross-browser validation to ensure a seamless user experience across all platforms and devices.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex automation issues and environment bottlenecks efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior QE associates, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the team.
- Ensure all testing activities comply with strict security, regulatory, and enterprise standards, particularly within the financial services domain.
- Actively participate in all Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, contributing to the overall SDLC process.
Required Technical Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on expertise in Playwright for web automation is mandatory for this senior-level position.
- Advanced proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript; additional experience with Python is highly desirable for script flexibility.
- Proven track record of working with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks, specifically Cucumber, to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical requirements.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD methodologies and practical experience with tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Quality Engineering (QE) principles, Agile methodologies, and the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong expertise in RESTful API testing and performance testing tools to validate backend services.
- Exceptional debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex system failures and provide root cause analysis.
Preferred Experience and Soft Skills
- Prior experience working within highly regulated environments, such as Banking or Financial Services, is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with Java, Spring frameworks, and legacy Selenium suites to assist in migration or integration efforts.
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on troubleshooting and proactive risk mitigation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure Agile environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Commitment to thorough documentation and knowledge-sharing practices to support team scalability and project continuity.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
