Role Overview
The ServiceNow Architect will be responsible for the high-level design and strategic roadmap of the ServiceNow platform, specifically focusing on HR Service Delivery (HRSD). This is a long-term contract opportunity (12+ months) that offers the flexibility of a fully remote work environment. As a lead architect, you will bridge the gap between complex business requirements and technical execution, ensuring that the platform remains scalable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices. The role requires a visionary approach to digital transformation, moving beyond simple configuration to create a holistic ecosystem that supports the entire employee lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end architecture for ServiceNow HRSD implementations, ensuring all modules are integrated seamlessly with existing enterprise systems.
- Design and implement scalable solutions utilizing Case Management, Knowledge Management, Employee Service Center (ESC), and Lifecycle Events.
- Configure and optimize HR Agent Workspace to improve agent productivity and employee experience through intuitive UI/UX design.
- Define comprehensive data models and integration patterns to support cross-departmental workflows and data integrity.
- Map out ‘Hire to Retire’ business processes and define the future state of HR digital transformation for the organization.
- Drive the automation strategy across the platform to reduce manual overhead and improve service delivery speed using Flow Designer and IntegrationHub.
- Design and develop robust API and middleware solutions for third-party integrations, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Establish and maintain architecture guardrails, ensuring all developments comply with organizational standards and ServiceNow’s ‘Out of the Box’ philosophy.
- Manage complex stakeholder relationships, acting as a technical advisor to both IT leadership and business units to align technology with business goals.
Technical Requirements and Expertise
The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of the ServiceNow ecosystem, specifically the HRSD suite. You should have a proven track record of leading large-scale HRSD projects from inception to go-live. Expertise in JavaScript, GlideScript, and ServiceNow APIs is essential for customizing the platform while maintaining upgradeability. Furthermore, you should be well-versed in ITIL processes and how they intersect with HR service management. Knowledge of Scoped Applications and the Common Service Data Provider (CSDM) framework is highly desirable.
Professional Experience and Leadership
Candidates are expected to have at least 10 years of experience in IT architecture, with a minimum of 6 years dedicated specifically to the ServiceNow platform. Experience with complex integrations involving Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, or other major HCM systems is highly preferred. You must demonstrate the ability to lead technical teams, provide mentorship to junior developers, and conduct rigorous code reviews. Strong communication skills are vital, as you will be presenting architectural decisions to C-suite executives and technical steering committees.
Project Scope and Strategic Impact
This project involves a global rollout of HRSD features across multiple geographic regions. You will be working in a mature Agile environment, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings. The focus is on creating a frictionless employee experience through digital workflows that reduce administrative friction. By implementing advanced automation and self-service capabilities, you will directly contribute to the organization’s operational efficiency and employee satisfaction metrics. This role is not just about technical delivery; it is about shaping the future of work within the enterprise.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $175,000 – $235,000 per year (Estimated)
