Position Summary

STAFFXPERT LLC is currently recruiting for a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to lead a critical Cloud Migration initiative. This is a 6-month contract with a high probability of extension, based onsite in either McLean, VA or Plano, TX. We are looking for a veteran DBA with over a decade of experience who can navigate the complexities of moving enterprise-level databases from on-premises environments to the cloud (Azure or AWS). This role requires a blend of traditional DBA skills and modern cloud-native expertise. STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator for a critical 6-month contract focused on Cloud Migration. This role is based onsite in McLean, VA or Plano, TX, and requires a professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration. The project involves transitioning complex, enterprise-level database environments from on-premises data centers to cloud platforms, primarily Azure and AWS.

Core Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of dedicated Microsoft SQL Server Administration.
  • Cloud Migration: Proven track record of successful on-prem to cloud transitions.
  • Technical Stack: Expertise in T-SQL, PowerShell, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/ARM).
  • High Availability: Deep knowledge of Always On, Log Shipping, and Replication.
  • Security: Advanced skills in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database security protocols.

Primary Responsibilities

As a lead DBA, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and patching of SQL Server instances across the enterprise. A significant portion of your time will be spent assessing existing on-premises environments to determine the best migration path—whether it be Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or AWS RDS. Utilizing tools such as the Data Migration Assistant (DMA) and Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), the candidate will execute migrations while ensuring data integrity and minimal service interruption. Post-migration, you will validate performance and optimize cloud resources to ensure cost-effectiveness and peak performance. You will also automate routine maintenance and monitoring tasks using PowerShell to increase operational efficiency. In addition to SQL Server, knowledge of other RDBMS such as Oracle or PostgreSQL is a plus, as it provides a broader perspective on database management. The candidate should also be familiar with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments, ensuring that database changes are integrated seamlessly into the software development lifecycle. This role is ideal for a seasoned DBA looking to leverage their skills in a modern, cloud-centric environment.

Work Environment and Visa Constraints

This position is strictly onsite (Monday-Friday) at our client locations in Virginia or Texas. Due to the nature of the project and client requirements, we can only consider candidates with USC, GC, GC-EAD, or H4-EAD status. We are unable to support OPT candidates for this specific role. The interview process will involve a face-to-face (F2F) meeting, emphasizing the need for candidates who are currently local or willing to travel for the final stages of the hiring process. Detailed documentation of the migration process and the final cloud architecture is a mandatory deliverable. The DBA will work closely with application developers and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot incidents and provide architectural guidance. Managing database security is a core responsibility, including administering user roles and permissions, implementing encryption (TDE), and ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory security standards.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $135,000 – $180,000 per year (Estimated)
