Role Overview
The Agentic AI Engineer role is a pivotal position within our advanced technology group, focusing on the next generation of artificial intelligence: autonomous agents. In 2026, the shift from static LLM prompts to dynamic, goal-oriented agentic workflows is the primary driver of enterprise efficiency. This role involves designing, building, and scaling sophisticated AI agents that can reason, plan, and execute complex tasks with minimal human intervention. You will be at the forefront of implementing ‘Planner/Supervisor’ patterns, where a lead agent orchestrates a fleet of specialized sub-agents to solve multi-step problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop LLM-based agents using orchestration frameworks like LangGraph and Semantic Kernel.
- Implement advanced intent classification and decision logic to enable agents to navigate complex servicing workflows.
- Integrate agents with downstream enterprise systems including CRM platforms, core banking services, and case management tools via secure API tool-calling.
- Design human-in-the-loop (HITL) mechanisms to ensure high-risk decisions are reviewed by subject matter experts based on confidence thresholds.
- Optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using advanced chunking, hybrid search, and re-ranking strategies to provide agents with grounded, factual context.
- Establish robust evaluation frameworks using ‘LLM-as-a-judge’ and golden datasets to measure agent performance, latency, and hallucination rates.
- Collaborate with Risk and Compliance teams to implement audit logs, traceability, and explainability for all AI-driven actions.
- Deploy and manage AI services in cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) using modern DevOps and CI/CD practices tailored for prompt engineering and model versioning.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong foundation in Computer Science.
- Hands-on experience with the modern AI stack, specifically building autonomous agents and RAG systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and backend API development (FastAPI/Flask).
- Deep understanding of vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus.
- Familiarity with security principles including PII protection and least-privilege access in AI environments.
The Future of Agentic AI
The evolution of Agentic AI represents a paradigm shift in how enterprises approach automation. Unlike traditional robotic process automation (RPA), which follows rigid scripts, agentic systems are capable of handling ambiguity and adapting to new information in real-time. As an Agentic AI Engineer, you will be tasked with creating ‘cognitive architectures’ that allow these agents to maintain state over long-running conversations and complex multi-day tasks. This involves sophisticated memory management, where agents can recall past interactions and apply learned context to current problems. Furthermore, you will explore the use of ‘small language models’ (SLMs) for specific edge-case tasks to optimize for latency and cost without sacrificing reasoning capabilities. Your work will directly contribute to the development of a ‘digital workforce’ that augments human capabilities, allowing employees to focus on high-level strategy while agents handle the intricate details of data retrieval, analysis, and system updates.
