Role Overview: GCP Data Platform Architect
We are seeking a highly experienced GCP Data Platform Architect to lead the evolution of our Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). This is a critical hybrid role based in Augusta, ME, requiring a professional with over 15 years of IT experience and a deep specialization in Google Cloud Platform technologies. The successful candidate will operate at the strategic intersection of architecture, rapid prototyping, and pragmatic delivery, ensuring that our data products are consumption-ready for advanced BI and emerging AI/data-agent use cases.
Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact
- Lead the design and implementation of the Enterprise Consumption Layer, focusing on standardized analytics serving layers and high-performance star schemas.
- Conduct rapid Proof of Concepts (POCs) to validate architectural patterns related to performance, cost-optimization, security, and operability within the GCP ecosystem.
- Define enterprise-wide standards for data product structures, onboarding protocols, and lifecycle management, including naming conventions and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product teams to balance speed of delivery with long-term platform durability and innovation.
- Provide technical leadership through rigorous design reviews, documentation of trade-off decisions, and clear communication with non-technical stakeholders.
- Drive the adoption of metadata-driven workflows and quality checks to support LLM-enabled and agentic tooling.
- Operate within an Agile/Kanban framework using Jira to deliver measurable outcomes iteratively.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of overall IT experience with at least 8 years focused on modern data platform delivery.
- Expert-level proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically BigQuery, Dataform, GCS, Cloud Composer, and Cloud Functions.
- Strong background in dimensional modeling, metric definitions, and the creation of enterprise-ready data structures.
- Deep understanding of security and access design, including least privilege principles and domain-based access concepts.
- Experience in the retail or omni-channel domain, with specific knowledge of customer, product, inventory, and loyalty data sets.
- Familiarity with data catalog platforms, governance workflows, and platform modernization programs.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $185,000 – $245,000 per year (Estimated)
