Role Overview: GCP Infrastructure & Security Lead

As we move into 2026, the demand for sophisticated cloud governance and robust data infrastructure has never been higher. We are seeking a highly skilled GCP Lead with a specialized focus on Infrastructure and Security to join our dynamic team. This remote position requires a professional who can bridge the gap between high-level architectural design and hands-on technical execution. The ideal candidate will possess over a decade of experience in data engineering, with a significant portion dedicated to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Scope

  • Lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable GCP infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Architect and manage complex data pipelines utilizing GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, and Dataflow.
  • Oversee database management across Cloud SQL and AlloyDB, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Implement comprehensive security protocols using GCP IAM, ensuring least-privilege access and robust identity management.
  • Monitor system health and security posture through advanced Logging and Monitoring configurations.
  • Facilitate seamless data integration and messaging using PubSub and Cloud Balancer.
  • Develop and maintain ETL processes, leveraging prior experience with tools like Datastage, Informatica, or SSIS to migrate legacy workflows to the cloud.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, Python scripts, and Linux shell scripts for automation and data processing.
  • Drive CI/CD best practices using Jenkins and GitHub Actions to ensure rapid and reliable deployment cycles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to deliver high-impact data solutions.

Strategic Impact in 2026

In the current landscape, a GCP Lead must not only understand the technical nuances of the platform but also the strategic implications of cloud security and data sovereignty. You will be responsible for ensuring that our cloud environment is resilient against emerging threats while maintaining the flexibility required for rapid innovation. Your expertise in data modeling (star and snowflake schemas) will be critical in transforming raw data into actionable insights for the business. This role demands a proactive mindset, where you are constantly looking for ways to optimize costs, improve performance, and enhance the overall security of our cloud footprint. Effective communication is paramount, as you will be translating complex technical requirements into clear objectives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Data Engineering or Cloud Architecture.
  • At least 3 years of deep, hands-on expertise specifically within the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proven proficiency in Python, SQL, and Linux scripting for enterprise-level automation.
  • Strong understanding of Azure environments is a significant plus, aiding in multi-cloud strategy.
  • GCP Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect certification is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote-first agile environment.
