Role Overview: SaaS Transformation Engineer
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with a deep background in Core PHP to lead a critical transformation project. Our organization is in the process of evolving a proven suite of internal, revenue-generating tools into a high-scale, public-facing SaaS platform specifically designed for the financial publishing (FinPub) industry. These tools are already operational in production environments for internal users and strategic partners; however, the current mandate is to harden, modernize, and scale these systems for broad industry adoption. This is not a greenfield project; it is a high-velocity execution role on real systems with significant traffic and aggressive delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Objectives
- Refactor and modernize legacy PHP systems and cron-driven workflows into high-performance Node.js services.
- Architect and implement containerized workloads using Docker and AWS ECS with robust autoscaling capabilities.
- Productize internal tools including high-throughput, low-latency tokenization and redirect services.
- Develop and scale an SMS platform for external customer integration.
- Support and enhance multi-tenant architectures, ensuring strict client isolation and database-per-customer segmentation.
- Improve system reliability and performance to handle millions of requests and database transactions.
- Collaborate with Cloud Architects to ensure infrastructure decisions support burst traffic and abuse resistance.
Technical Requirements
- Senior-level experience building and maintaining production systems at significant scale.
- Strong backend engineering background with the ability to read and refactor legacy PHP codebases.
- Proficiency in Node.js, Docker, and Microservices architecture.
- Expertise in SQL at scale, including complex transactions, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Experience with AWS services, particularly ECS and RDS.
- Pragmatic mindset focused on making systems work, scale, and remain secure under heavy load.
Project Context and Environment
The successful candidate will join a senior-heavy team focused on rapid execution. The environment is fast-paced, requiring an engineer who can jump into an existing ecosystem and immediately contribute to the modernization effort. The focus is on technical excellence and system survival during traffic spikes and large volumes of writes. This 6-month contract offers a unique opportunity to influence the architecture of a major industry platform while working with a modern stack including Node.js, Docker, and AWS ECS.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $60 – $63 per year
