Opportunity: Lead Data Scientist (Retail Domain)
We are looking for a visionary Lead Data Scientist to join our team on-site in Pleasanton, CA. This is a high-impact role within the retail industry, where you will lead the development of sophisticated recommender systems and machine learning pipelines. As a senior leader, you will bridge the gap between complex data science research and production-ready MLOps environments. This position requires a deep technical background in transformer architectures and a passion for solving real-world retail challenges through data-driven insights.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Architect and improve current recommender system pipelines, focusing on end-to-end testing and optimization of algorithms.
- Implement advanced Transformer Architectures, specifically for Customer Sequence Modeling and handling Multi-Modal/Variable Length Inputs.
- Oversee the entire data lifecycle, from dataset gathering and preprocessing to building offline models and performing hyperparameter tuning.
- Develop online inference paths that combine offline models with real-time session features to enhance customer experience.
- Collaborate closely with MLOps teams to ensure seamless deployment and monitoring of models in production.
- Define and track success metrics to measure the impact of data science initiatives on business outcomes.
Required Skills and Expertise
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in data science and machine learning. Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL is mandatory, along with extensive experience using big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark. You should have a strong understanding of statistical analysis, data modeling, and data visualization techniques. A proven track record in predictive analytics and applied machine learning is essential. Most importantly, experience within the Retail industry is a MUST for this role, as you will be expected to understand the unique nuances of customer behavior and inventory data.
Leadership and Communication
Beyond technical prowess, we are looking for a leader who can tell a story with data. You must be able to communicate complex findings to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making processes at the executive level. Your ability to mentor junior scientists and drive a culture of analytical excellence will be key to your success. This role is based on-site in Pleasanton, CA, offering a collaborative environment where you can work directly with business leaders to shape the future of retail technology.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $180,000 – $250,000 per year (Estimated)
