Position Summary
We are seeking a Lead Mobile QA Engineer to spearhead our quality assurance efforts for native iOS and Android applications. This hybrid role, based in New Jersey, is designed for a technical expert who can balance hands-on automation engineering with strategic leadership. You will be responsible for the end-to-end quality of our mobile ecosystem, with a particular focus on high-performance video streaming. This is a Lead position, meaning you will not only execute tests but also define the standards, tools, and processes that ensure our products remain best-in-class in a highly competitive market. The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on automation skills, strong Java expertise, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality mobile and streaming experiences.
Core Responsibilities and Technical Leadership
- Advanced Automation Frameworks: You will design, develop, and maintain sophisticated automated test suites using Appium, Selenium, and Java. Your goal is to create a resilient automation pipeline that integrates seamlessly into our CI/CD workflows, reducing manual overhead and increasing release velocity.
- Mobile Video Streaming Specialization: A significant portion of this role involves testing video playback across various network conditions. You must have a deep understanding of streaming protocols such as HLS and DASH, ensuring that our users receive a high-quality, low-latency experience regardless of their device or connection.
- Manual and Exploratory Testing: While automation is key, you will also perform high-level manual testing to catch edge cases that scripts might miss. This includes usability testing and ensuring the UI/UX aligns with our brand standards for native mobile applications.
- Performance and Security Auditing: You will conduct rigorous performance testing to identify memory leaks, battery drain issues, and network bottlenecks. Additionally, you will perform security scans to protect user data and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Agile Integration: As a lead, you will be a central figure in Agile/Scrum ceremonies. You will collaborate with Product Managers to define quality standards and work with Developers to ensure that quality is baked into the code from the start.
- Tooling and Debugging: You will utilize advanced debugging tools like Charles Proxy or Fiddler to analyze network traffic and troubleshoot API integrations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Mobile Expertise: Extensive experience testing native applications on both iOS and Android platforms is mandatory. You should be familiar with the specific nuances of each operating system and hardware interaction.
- Programming Depth: Strong Java programming skills are required for building and maintaining automation scripts. You should be comfortable with object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
- Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead a QA team, mentor junior engineers, and drive a culture of quality across the organization. You will document test plans, results, and defects, tracking issues to closure using Jira.
- Educational Background: A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required to meet the technical demands of the role.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on complex datasets.
