Position Summary
Absolute IT is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Software Analyst specializing in Data Remediation and Legacy System Conversion. This critical role supports a major modernization initiative for a long-standing mainframe system. The analyst will be responsible for developing data remediation programs and SQL scripts essential for the conversion phase of the project. Beyond technical execution, the candidate will analyze and document complex business rules and embedded logic within COBOL and other platform-specific code on a decades-old mainframe. This documentation is vital for system integrators to design and execute the migration of historical data to modern platforms accurately.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain data remediation programs and SQL scripts for large-scale system conversion projects.
- Analyze legacy COBOL code to extract, interpret, and document complex business rules and functional workflows.
- Collaborate with system integrators to ensure the accurate migration of historical data to modern architectures.
- Communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including project leadership.
- Support and enhance long-standing mainframe systems in production environments during the transition period.
- Perform data mapping and functional workflow migration analysis.
- Utilize tools such as SAR View, VSAM, DFSORT, and IDCAMS for data analysis and system maintenance.
- Participate in Agile development practices and iterative delivery cycles.
Technical Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including the development of complex stored procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of COBOL (specifically COBOL 6.4) and the ability to document legacy system logic.
- Hands-on experience with CICS TS and DB2 (v12.1).
- Proficiency with mainframe utilities: QMF reporting, SPUFI, File Manager, and CA Intertest.
- Experience working with SAR View, VSAM, DFSORT, and IDCAMS.
- Proven expertise in data mapping and functional workflow migration from legacy platforms.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to uncover intricacies in decades-old applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CICS Web Interface, web services, and API management.
- Familiarity with MQ or similar messaging and queuing technologies.
- Experience with utility work management workflows or the SCANA application.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Visio for creating technical documentation and presentations.
- Learning agility to adopt new technologies and methodologies quickly.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
