Role Overview: Manufacturing Engineer with CMM Programming
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer with specialized expertise in CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programming to join our team in Lafayette, Indiana. This long-term contract position is critical for our heavy industry operations, focusing on the inspection and quality assurance of complex CNC machined components. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between engineering design and physical production, ensuring that every part meets the rigorous standards required for heavy-duty industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Depth
- Advanced CMM Programming: Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize complex CMM programs using industry-standard software such as PC-DMIS and Calypso. You will be responsible for creating automated inspection routines that can handle intricate geometries and tight tolerances.
- Technical Specification Interpretation: Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in reading and interpreting 2D engineering drawings and technical specifications. A deep understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is essential to ensure that measurement strategies align with design intent.
- Equipment Calibration and Setup: Manage the setup and calibration of CMM hardware to maintain the highest levels of measurement accuracy. This includes selecting appropriate probing systems and fixtures for various CNC components.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze measurement data to identify trends, deviations, or potential manufacturing issues. Prepare comprehensive inspection reports and document findings for engineering and production teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with CNC operators, manufacturing engineers, and quality control teams to resolve measurement discrepancies and improve overall inspection procedures.
Professional Requirements and Environment
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a heavy manufacturing environment, where precision and durability are paramount. You must be comfortable working independently to solve programming challenges while also contributing to a team-oriented production environment. This role requires a Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field. Experience with heavy industry components and familiarity with CNC machining processes will be highly valued. As we look toward 2026, the integration of automated inspection and digital twin technology makes this role pivotal for our manufacturing excellence.
