Position Summary: Sr. Network/Azure Cloud Engineer
Upstream Global Services is looking for a seasoned Sr. Network/Azure Cloud Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity. This role is based onsite in either Walnut Creek, CA or Reno, NV, and requires a professional who can navigate the complexities of hybrid cloud environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and evolving our core infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across both on-premises and Azure-based systems. This position is ideal for a ‘local’ candidate who thrives in a hands-on environment and possesses a deep understanding of modern networking and cloud paradigms. You will be a key player in our infrastructure team, driving technical excellence and operational stability.
Core Infrastructure and Systems Management
- Manage and optimize hardware, operating systems, and systems software, including VMware virtualization and Red Hat Linux.
- Administer Windows Server 2016+ environments and Intel-based server clusters to support enterprise applications.
- Oversee storage systems and applications, including RAID configurations, NAS, and SAN architectures.
- Implement and manage robust backup solutions using Veeam software to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.
- Monitor system health and performance using advanced tools such as Dynatrace and Logic Monitor to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Networking and Security Excellence
- Configure and maintain Cisco routers and switches, ensuring a stable and high-speed network backbone.
- Deploy and manage Fortinet SD-WAN and firewall solutions to optimize traffic flow and enhance perimeter security.
- Utilize Cisco Meraki for wireless communications and manage standard protocols including TCP/IP, SMTP, and SNMP.
- Strengthen the security posture using Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft Defender 365.
- Monitor and respond to threats using Crowdstrike Falcon and integrated SIEM tools to protect the organization’s digital assets.
Azure Cloud Integration and DevSecOps
A significant portion of this role involves managing hybrid connections between on-premises infrastructure and the Azure cloud. You will be responsible for Azure networking services, including the configuration of VNets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), Azure Firewall, Azure Bastion, and Azure Load Balancers. We are moving towards a more automated, secure, and self-service cloud platform. Therefore, experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevSecOps practices is highly desirable. You will work closely with engineering teams to build standardized platforms that empower developers while maintaining strict security and compliance standards. Your expertise will be vital in scaling our cloud footprint efficiently and securely. As a Senior Network/Azure Cloud Engineer, you will also play a key role in the architectural planning for future infrastructure upgrades. This includes assessing the impact of emerging technologies like 5G and edge computing on our current network topology. You will be expected to document all system configurations and changes meticulously, providing a clear roadmap for other team members. The ‘Long Term’ nature of this contract reflects our commitment to stability and continuous improvement. We value engineers who take ownership of their environment and are constantly looking for ways to automate repetitive tasks. By leveraging tools like Terraform or Ansible for IaC, you will help reduce manual errors and speed up the deployment of new resources. Your contribution will be essential in maintaining the high level of service our internal and external users expect.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $160,000 – $220,000 per year (Estimated)
