Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator Specialist to serve as a Technical Lead for our PostgreSQL and MongoDB environments. This is a long-term contract position through December 31, 2026, located onsite in either Plano, Texas, or McLean, Virginia. The ideal candidate will bring over eight years of experience in database administration, with a specific focus on cloud-native solutions and high-availability architectures. As a lead, you will not only manage the technical aspects of our database systems but also provide strategic guidance and mentorship to the engineering team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and optimized for the demands of a modern enterprise.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases for scalability, reliability, and peak performance.
- Apply advanced knowledge of database architecture, including query planning, indexing, partitioning, and replication strategies.
- Establish and enforce best practices for database design, normalization, and data integrity across the enterprise.
- Deploy and manage database clusters with a focus on high availability, global distribution, and disaster recovery.
- Utilize AWS storage management and monitoring tools to ensure optimal database health and proactive issue resolution.
- Implement performance and cost optimization strategies within the AWS cloud environment to maximize ROI.
- Monitor and tune database performance, including complex query optimization and resource allocation.
- Oversee regular backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and strict compliance with security standards.
- Lead end-to-end database migration projects from legacy systems to cloud-native solutions with minimal downtime.
- Mentor junior database engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align database strategies with business goals.
Technical Requirements
The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and have at least 8 years of hands-on experience in database engineering. Expertise in PostgreSQL and MongoDB is mandatory, including advanced administration and troubleshooting. You should have a proven track record of designing and optimizing databases for high performance in high-traffic environments. Extensive experience with the AWS ecosystem, including management, monitoring, and global database features, is required. Familiarity with automation tools such as CloudFormation and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is highly preferred to drive operational efficiency.
Leadership and Strategy
As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the roadmap of our data infrastructure. This includes planning and executing complex migrations with minimal downtime and verified data integrity. You will document technical solutions and operational procedures to create a robust knowledge base for the organization. Your leadership will ensure that our database systems are not only performant but also secure and compliant with all regulatory requirements. You will be expected to stay ahead of industry trends and recommend new technologies that can enhance our data capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with professional certifications in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or AWS will be given priority. Experience with additional AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, and S3, and their integration with database platforms, is a significant advantage. Special Requirements
Any visa considered (C2C). Fully onsite in Plano, TX or McLean, VA. Contract until Dec 31, 2026. Expertise in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS required.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $165,000 – $225,000 per year (Estimated)
