Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe QA Tester for a critical 100% onsite engagement in Cincinnati, OH. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality and reliability of batch and online CICS mainframe applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end testing lifecycle, from requirement analysis to defect resolution, within a complex legacy environment. This position requires a deep understanding of COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM components, as well as proficiency in modern test management tools.
Technical Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and automate robust test suites for mainframe applications.
- Prepare comprehensive test scenarios and maintain high-quality test data using FileAid and SPUFI.
- Customize and execute JCLs to manage batch job processing and validate output datasets.
- Perform rigorous DB2 database testing, including complex SQL querying and data validation.
- Analyze system abends from JES spool and utilize debugging tools like Xpediter to identify root causes.
- Review COBOL and DB2 source code to trace logic and ensure alignment with technical specifications.
- Execute functional, integration, and regression tests for CICS online components.
- Log and track defects using HP Quality Center (ALM) and Jira, facilitating triage and retesting efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience in mainframe testing within CICS, COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM environments.
- Expertise in mainframe utility tools including FileAid, File Manager, Xpediter, Endevor, and SPUFI.
- Proven ability to customize production JCLs for use in isolated test environments.
- Strong background in test management and defect tracking using industry-standard tools like Jira and ALM.
- Deep knowledge of software testing methodologies, phases, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with developers and project leads.
Project Environment and Expectations
The Quality Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to assess risks and report daily progress. In the 2026 landscape, mainframe systems remain the backbone of financial and enterprise operations, requiring testers who can bridge the gap between legacy stability and modern agile delivery. Candidates must be prepared to work onsite in Cincinnati, adhering to all local project protocols. Compensation & Location
Salary: $95,000 – $105,000 per year (Estimated)
