Role Overview and Strategic Impact
We are currently seeking a highly sophisticated SRE Cloud Data Platform Engineer to join our expansive team of 45 specialized resources. This is a high-impact role focused on the technical execution and operational excellence of our Azure-based data ecosystem. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be at the forefront of managing and optimizing a complex stack that includes Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and Unity Catalog. This position is designed for a technical leader with over 13 years of experience who thrives in hands-on engineering environments rather than administrative coordination. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our cloud data platforms are secure, reliable, cost-efficient, and governed according to enterprise standards.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Cloud Platform Operations: You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of Azure workloads, including ADLS, VNets, Key Vault, and Azure Data Factory. A significant portion of your role will involve configuring and maintaining Databricks clusters, managing Delta Live Tables (DLT) pipelines, and enforcing Unity Catalog policies to ensure data integrity and security. You will also operationalize Fabric Lakehouses and Pipelines for production workloads.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation: Leveraging Terraform and Bicep, you will build and maintain robust templates for environment provisioning. Your goal is to achieve full automation in the deployment of notebooks, workflows, and networking components across DEV, QA, UAT, and PROD environments. You will develop end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions to enforce version control and quality gates.
- FinOps and Cost Governance: In the 2026 cloud landscape, cost efficiency is paramount. You will implement FinOps dashboards and automated consumption monitoring to optimize spend across Databricks and Fabric engines. This includes cluster sizing, autoscaling, idle management, and capacity planning to ensure maximum ROI on cloud investments.
- SRE and Observability: You will lead the implementation of monitoring and alerting frameworks using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics. By defining SLIs and SLOs, you will ensure platform reliability and lead root cause analysis (RCA) for any production incidents. You will build runbooks and automated remediation workflows to stabilize the environment.
Required Qualifications and Expertise
- Minimum of 13 years of experience in Information Technology, with a strong focus on cloud data engineering, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
- Deep hands-on expertise with Azure Data Services (ADLS, ADF, Synapse) and Azure Databricks (Unity Catalog, DLT).
- Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Pipelines, Warehouse, and Dataflows.
- Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PySpark, SQL, and Bash.
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Bicep and CI/CD practices.
- Experience in highly regulated environments such as BFSI, Healthcare, or Retail, with an understanding of zero-trust security models.
Collaboration and Governance
Beyond technical execution, you will be responsible for environment management and governance. This includes provisioning Azure data environments with consistent naming standards and configuring RBAC, ACLs, and service principals. You will implement governance standards for data access, lineage, and audit logging to mitigate risk. As part of a large-scale team, you will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that the platform meets the evolving needs of the business while maintaining the highest standards of reliability and security.
