Position Summary

We are looking for a seasoned HP Unix Engineer with over 10 years of experience to join our team onsite in Spring, TX. This role requires a deep technical expert capable of providing L3 support for mission-critical HP-UX environments. You will be responsible for the stability, performance, and security of HP-UX 11i v2/v3 systems running on PA-RISC and Itanium platforms. This is a high-impact role that demands both technical excellence and strong process-oriented thinking.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end L3 support for HP-UX 11i v2/v3 environments, ensuring maximum uptime for enterprise applications.
  • Manage comprehensive OS lifecycle tasks, including patching, kernel tuning, firmware updates, and OS hardening to meet security standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues related to memory management, CPU utilization, I/O performance, and core OS bottlenecks.
  • Architect and manage virtualized environments using nPars, vPars, and Integrity VM (I-VM).
  • Plan and execute capacity expansion strategies for partitions and virtual environments to accommodate business growth.
  • Configure and administer high-availability clusters using HP ServiceGuard (MC/SG).
  • Develop and test cluster package scripts, perform failover testing, and lead Disaster Recovery (DR) simulations.
  • Provision LUNs and manage HP storage systems, including P9500, EVA, and XP series.
  • Lead host-based and storage-based SAN migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Automate routine system operations to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) guidance for platform modernization and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with clients on data center migrations, consolidations, and system refresh projects.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of professional experience in Unix Systems Engineering, specifically focused on HP-UX.
  • Expert knowledge of HP-UX 11i v2/v3 on PA-RISC and Itanium hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with HP ServiceGuard (MC/SG) for high availability.
  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies including nPars, vPars, and IVM.
  • Strong background in storage administration (P9500, EVA, XP) and SAN migration techniques.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure production environments and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical outages.
  • Excellent documentation skills for creating SOPs, implementation plans, and rollback procedures.
