Role Overview: ArcGIS Specialist (L4-L5 Level)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ArcGIS Specialist at the L4-L5 level to join our dynamic team in Sacramento, CA. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence two days a week, offering a unique opportunity to lead complex GIS initiatives within a high-impact environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of GIS application development, from initial architectural design to deployment and long-term maintenance. As a senior-level specialist, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and mentoring junior staff while ensuring that our spatial data infrastructure remains robust, scalable, and secure.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Leadership
- Design, develop, and maintain sophisticated GIS applications utilizing the full Esri ArcGIS platform suite.
- Architect and deploy web-based GIS solutions using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Server to meet diverse stakeholder needs.
- Configure, optimize, and manage enterprise-grade spatial databases across platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Execute advanced spatial data analysis, complex data modeling, and automated geoprocessing workflows to derive actionable insights.
- Develop custom GIS tools and automation scripts using Python (ArcPy), JavaScript (ArcGIS API for JavaScript), and RESTful web services.
- Design and publish high-performance map services, feature services, and geoprocessing services for enterprise consumption.
- Oversee versioning, replication, and data integrity protocols within enterprise geodatabases to ensure high availability and accuracy.
- Integrate GIS solutions seamlessly with other enterprise systems, including ERP and CRM platforms, to enhance organizational data flow.
- Lead technical discussions, provide architectural guidance for new projects, and mentor junior GIS developers and analysts.
- Ensure the performance optimization, security compliance, and scalability of all GIS applications and infrastructure.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- 6 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in GIS development and enterprise-level spatial solution architecture.
- Expert-level proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and the broader Esri ecosystem.
- Proven track record in web GIS application development and custom tool creation using Python and JavaScript frameworks (React or Angular preferred).
- Deep understanding of spatial databases, SQL, REST APIs, and web services integration.
- Strong foundational knowledge of GIS concepts, including projections, coordinate systems, and topology.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS is highly desirable.
- Prior experience working with California State agencies is considered a significant advantage.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Special Requirements
Visa: No H1B/CPT. Hybrid/Onsite 2 days a week in Sacramento, CA. CA State experience nice to have.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
