Role Overview: Application Operations Analyst (Utility Domain)
We are seeking a dedicated Application Operations Analyst to support PG&E’s critical SmartMeter infrastructure in Oakland, CA. This is a specialized production support role focused on the Meter-to-Cash (M2C) billing cycle and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The successful candidate will ensure the seamless flow of data from physical meters to the billing systems, maintaining the integrity of the utility’s revenue cycle.
Core Responsibilities
- SmartMeter System Maintenance: You will be the primary point of contact for troubleshooting and maintaining SmartMeter applications, specifically focusing on Itron UIQ or similar AMI platforms.
- Data Integrity and SQL Troubleshooting: Perform deep-dive analysis into data discrepancies. You will write complex SQL queries to identify and correct faults within Oracle databases to ensure accurate customer billing.
- Production Support: Monitor 24-hour batch processing jobs. You are responsible for ensuring that usage files are processed timely to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for web presentment and bill printing.
- Infrastructure Oversight: Provide operational support for Linux-based servers and network components that host the SmartMeter ecosystem. This includes managing backups and executing planned corrective maintenance.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders. You must be able to translate technical incidents into non-technical status reports for management.
Technical Requirements and Domain Expertise
- Utility Industry Experience: Mandatory experience in the Oil, Gas, or Electricity sectors. Candidates must understand the nuances of utility operations and the SmartMeter lifecycle.
- Technical Stack: Proficiency in Linux environment administration, Oracle database management, and SQL scripting.
- AMI Platforms: Hands-on experience with Itron UIQ or equivalent SmartMeter management systems is highly preferred.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose performance faults in large-scale, complex infrastructure-application systems.
Professional Environment
This role requires a ‘Local Only’ candidate as the interview process involves an initial video screening followed by a mandatory onsite interview in Oakland. You will work under the direction of senior analysts but are expected to demonstrate the independence required to scope work and develop solutions for well-defined problems. The hiring manager is willing to flex the compensation and title to a ‘Senior’ level for candidates with exceptional Itron UIQ or Meter-to-Cash experience.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $120,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
