Role Overview
Intone Networks is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior GCP Data Engineer for a critical contract engagement based in Jersey City, NJ. This role is designed for a technical leader with over a decade of experience in the data engineering domain, specifically focusing on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing, building, and optimizing secure, scalable, and high-performance data pipelines and analytics solutions. This position requires a deep understanding of modern data architecture and the ability to leverage GCP-native tools to solve complex business challenges. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering end-to-end data projects and will be comfortable working in a hybrid environment that demands both technical excellence and collaborative communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline Development: You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, construction, and optimization of data pipelines. Utilizing GCP-native services such as Dataflow, Dataproc, and Cloud Storage, you will build robust workflows primarily using Python to ensure data is processed efficiently and reliably.
- Data Modeling & Architecture: A core part of this role involves creating high-quality, reproducible data models within BigQuery. You will implement advanced performance-tuning techniques, including partitioning, clustering, and the use of materialized views, to enhance query speed while maintaining strict cost management protocols.
- Streaming & Real-time Analytics: You will design and implement real-time streaming pipelines using Pub/Sub and Apache Beam or Spark Streaming. This ensures that the organization has access to low-latency data for immediate decision-making and operational insights.
- Infrastructure & DevOps Integration: You will be tasked with establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for all data workflows. This includes using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Jenkins for automation, ensuring that deployments are seamless, repeatable, and secure.
- Security & Governance: Implementing industry best practices for data security is paramount. You will manage IAM roles, encryption (CMEK), and VPC Service Controls to protect sensitive data assets and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: You will work closely with business stakeholders to define technical requirements, mentor junior engineering staff, and produce comprehensive technical documentation that serves as a blueprint for the data infrastructure.
Technical Requirements
- Platform Expertise: Deep, hands-on expertise in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is mandatory.
- Programming Languages: Exceptional proficiency in SQL and Python is required; familiarity with Java is considered a strong asset.
- GCP Toolset: Mastery of BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer (Airflow), Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Dataproc, Cloud SQL, Cloud Run, and Cloud Functions.
- Monitoring & Logging: Proficiency in using GCP’s native logging and monitoring tools to maintain system health and performance.
- Data Modeling: Extensive experience in database design and ETL/ELT workflow orchestration across relational, dimensional, and NoSQL environments.
- DevOps Tools: Practical experience with Terraform and Jenkins for automated infrastructure and deployment management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in data engineering, with a significant portion dedicated to GCP environments.
- Project Track Record: Candidates must have successfully delivered at least 4 to 5 end-to-end projects as a Senior Data Engineer using GCP services.
- Security Knowledge: A strong understanding of cloud security best practices, identity management, and cloud networking is essential.
- Containerization: Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Communication: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
- Certifications: A Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification is highly preferred and will be prioritized during the selection process.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Jersey City, NJ. Candidates must be local to the area or willing to commute as per the hybrid schedule. This contract position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects within a dynamic and technologically advanced environment, contributing to the digital transformation of a leading organization.
