Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Node JS AI Engineer for a critical 6-month contract position based in Sunnyvale, CA. This hybrid role is designed for a technical leader who can bridge the gap between traditional backend architecture and cutting-edge artificial intelligence implementations. As the tech landscape evolves in 2026, this position focuses on building resilient, scalable, and intelligent services that power next-generation business applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving innovation strategies and ensuring that all technical projects align with the overarching business objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovation strategies, processes, and industry best practices for backend AI services.
  • Drive the execution of multiple complex business plans and engineering projects from conception to deployment.
  • Lead the discovery phase of medium to large-scale projects, producing high-level architectural designs and technical specifications.
  • Mentor and lead a small group of 3 to 4 engineers, providing technical guidance and code reviews for assigned projects.
  • Participate in end-to-end service implementations, including complex data feed ingestion and sophisticated orchestration workflows.
  • Design and implement high-performance, low-latency services using Node.js and modern AI frameworks.
  • Troubleshoot critical business and production issues, ensuring high availability and system reliability.
  • Promote and support company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity throughout the development lifecycle.

Technical Requirements and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in Backend Development with a focus on Node.js and asynchronous programming.
  • Proven track record of integrating AI models and machine learning workflows into production-grade backend systems.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools and managing large-scale data ingestion pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Ability to design systems optimized for low latency and high throughput.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead small teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.

Project Scope and Environment

This project involves working on high-impact initiatives that require a deep understanding of both software engineering and data science principles. You will be working in a hybrid environment in Sunnyvale, CA, requiring a balance of onsite collaboration and remote focus. The duration is initially set for 6 months with a strong possibility of extension based on project milestones and performance. This is a C2C (Corp-to-Corp) engagement requiring candidates to have valid US work authorization (US Citizens or Green Card holders only).

Compensation & Location

Salary: $185,000 – $245,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Sunnyvale, CA
