Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe Storage Administrator to join our enterprise infrastructure team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing large-scale mainframe storage environments to ensure high availability, data integrity, and peak performance. As we move into 2026, the complexity of hybrid cloud and mainframe integration requires a specialist who can navigate traditional storage management while preparing for modern data resiliency challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain IBM DS8K Storage Systems, ensuring optimal configuration and performance tuning.
- Manage Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) using DFHSM and DFSMS to automate data placement and migration.
- Execute comprehensive backup and recovery operations using FDR to safeguard enterprise data assets.
- Utilize MVSRM for Storage Resource Management to monitor capacity and predict future storage needs.
- Implement and manage GDPS solutions, including Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and Hyperswap, to maintain business continuity.
- Oversee Storage Pool and Volume Lifecycle Management to optimize resource utilization across the mainframe environment.
- Manage Virtual Tape Operations using Luminex systems to ensure efficient data archival and retrieval.
- Lead Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and execution, conducting regular drills to validate recovery time objectives (RTO).
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX and CLIST to streamline administrative tasks.
- Work extensively with JCL, TSO, and ISPF to manage system resources and batch processing.
Technical Requirements
- Proven experience in IBM Mainframe Storage Administration within a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Deep expertise in DFSMS components (DFSMSdfp, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm).
- Hands-on experience with high-end storage hardware, specifically IBM DS8000 series.
- Strong knowledge of replication technologies and high-availability architectures (GDPS).
- Proficiency in mainframe scripting languages including REXX and CLIST.
- Solid understanding of JCL and system utilities for storage management.
- Experience with virtual tape libraries and modern backup methodologies.
