Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior z/OS Systems Engineer to join our Mainframe Services z/OS Platform Engineering team. This role involves providing comprehensive technical support for the z/OS platform, including design, development, and implementation of systems engineering activities. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge and extensive experience in operating system support, systems programming, and data center capabilities. While this position does not have direct reports, it requires the ability to influence and direct team activities related to special initiatives and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical support for the z/OS platform, focusing on platform engineering.
- Participate in the design, development, and implementation of systems engineering solutions.
- Offer technical support for operating systems, systems programming, and data center infrastructure.
- Undertake complex engineering and analytical tasks as both an individual contributor and a team member.
- Configure SMPE, order software, and install software releases.
- Analyze svcdump, logrec diagnostic data, and other system logs.
- Install software release upgrades using zOSMF dialogs and build software maintenance workflows.
- Utilize IBMLINK to order software, create IBM problem tickets, and research software issues.
- Develop and implement software security solutions using RACF.
- Configure Coupling Facility policies within a SYSPLEX environment.
- Configure servers, monitor server operations (IPL Profiles), and manage HMC security using HMC.
- Analyze diagnostic data using Debug Tools, EREP, GTF, IPCS, and SLIP.
- Develop and maintain system exits and utilities using Rexx Programming.
- Configure server/device GENs using HCD.
- Mine SMF and MICS data using SAS Programming.
- Map chpids for server installation using the Chpid mapping tool.
- Analyze software security using Vanguard tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system stability and performance.
- Contribute to innovative thinking and technical strategy development.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in z/OS systems engineering.
- Proficiency in SMPE: Configure SMPE, Order Software, Install Software.
- Strong Assembler Programming skills for analyzing diagnostic data.
- Experience with zOSMF: Install software release upgrades, Build software maintenance workflows.
- Familiarity with IBMLINK: Order software, Create IBM problem tickets, Research IBM software issues.
- Expertise in RACF for developing software security.
- Experience with SYSPLEX: Configure Coupling Facility policies.
- Proficiency with HMC: Configure server, Configure monitor server Ops (IPL Profiles), Configure HMC security.
- Skilled in using Debug Tools for analyzing diagnostic data.
- Experience with EREP for analyzing logrec diagnostic data.
- Familiarity with GTF for capturing diagnostic data.
- Proficiency with IPCS for analyzing scvdump diagnostic data.
- Experience with SLIP for capturing diagnostic data.
- Strong Rexx Programming skills for developing system exits and utilities.
- Experience with HCD for configuring server/device GENs.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability in automation, production support, and risk management.
- Adaptability and strong business acumen.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and solution delivery processes.
- Skilled in solution design and architecture.
- Effective collaboration and stakeholder management abilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- SAS Programming experience for mining SMF and MICS data.
- Experience with Chpid mapping tool.
- Experience with Vanguard tools for software security analysis.
