Job Overview
KayCee Tech Solutions INC is seeking a skilled Legacy Systems Migration Engineer for a critical 12-month contract role. This position is central to a major modernization initiative aimed at converting long-standing COBOL, Assembler, and JCL workloads into modern languages and orchestration formats. The role is 100% remote, with a strong preference for candidates located in the Eastern (EST) or Central (CST) time zones, although candidates in Mountain (MST) or Pacific (PST) time zones may also be considered. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to a significant digital transformation project.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, read, and compile COBOL programs using an open-source compiler, ensuring the preservation of original processing logic.
- Convert legacy Assembler code into modern C/C++ for seamless deployment in contemporary environments.
- Translate traditional JCL job streams into YAML workflows, specifically for ingestion into the Kestra orchestration platform.
- Collaborate closely with the lead engineer who has already established the initial Proof of Concept (POC) and continues to guide the project’s strategic direction.
- Ensure the ongoing success of conversions by maintaining accuracy, performance, and reliability throughout the entire migration process.
- Support comprehensive end-to-end testing, validation, and meticulous documentation of all migrated components.
- Work independently within a fast-paced, schedule-driven project environment, meeting strict deadlines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the migration and conversion process.
- Contribute to the overall success of the modernization initiative by applying deep technical expertise.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated deep experience with COBOL, Assembler, and JCL, coupled with extensive knowledge of legacy mainframe environments.
- Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as C++, C, and/or Python.
- Proven experience in modernizing or migrating legacy systems is essential.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools is required; specific experience with Kestra is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and migration best practices.
- Effective communication skills, particularly for remote collaboration.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Kestra orchestration tool.
- Familiarity with cloud migration strategies.
- Knowledge of YAML syntax and structure.
Location and Employment Type
This is a 100% remote position. Candidates in EST or CST time zones are strongly preferred. The role is a 12-month contract, likely paid via C2C or 1099, but open to W2 arrangements.
