Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and true Business Analyst with a minimum of 12+ years of experience to join our team. This role requires a deep understanding of business processes and the ability to translate complex business needs into detailed technical requirements. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in reviewing technical designs, identifying system gaps, and designing effective solutions. This is a hybrid position requiring 2-5 days onsite per week in Lansing, Michigan, with a strong preference for local candidates within a 2-hour radius of Dimondale, MI. The contract duration is for 1 year with possible extensions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all organizational levels to ensure alignment on project goals.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Lead discussions with developers and architects to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical limitations, ensuring the implementation of optimal solutions.
- Work closely with development, quality assurance, and infrastructure teams to ensure business needs are thoroughly understood, technical solutions are aligned, and software is delivered on time and within scope.
- Analyze raw data gathered by the project team, applying appropriate tools and techniques to extract meaningful insights and drive informed decision-making.
- Determine the most effective approach: building a custom solution, purchasing off-the-shelf software, modernizing legacy systems, integrating existing solutions, or developing entirely new applications, considering business context and the technical landscape.
- Lead initiatives by managing cross-functional teams, ensuring successful project delivery on time and within scope.
- Mentor junior Business Analysts by sharing best practices and providing guidance to support their professional growth and success.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience as a Business Analyst with a proven track record of understanding business processes and translating them into technical requirements.
- 8+ years of experience eliciting business requirements and translating them into detailed technical design documents in partnership with application and solution architects, guiding the design and development of large-scale application projects.
- Expertise in reviewing technical designs and specifications for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to established quality standards.
- Strong experience in responsive design application development, with a focus on creating human-centric design solutions.
- Skilled in identifying gaps in existing software systems and designing solutions that meet business needs, whether through building new features, integrating third-party applications, or enhancing legacy systems.
- Ability to break down complex business requirements into actionable tasks for development teams, while ensuring that technical constraints and limitations are considered.
- Knowledgeable about current software development best practices, including Agile, DevOps, and modern programming languages and frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills to assess complex business issues, propose effective solutions, and make data-driven decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in using process modeling tools for creating flowcharts, data models, and business process diagrams.
- Familiar with industry standards, including legacy, core, and emerging technologies, as well as business process mapping and re-engineering techniques.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both technical teams (developers, testers, architects) and business stakeholders (product owners, project managers, executives), ensuring clear understanding of business needs and technical capabilities.
- Strong experience working in Agile or Hybrid environments (Scrum, Kanban, etc.), translating business needs into user stories for IT development teams, with familiarity in other SDLC methodologies such as Waterfall.
- Solid understanding of how software applications integrate with other enterprise systems and databases, enabling the creation of cohesive and scalable solutions.
- Familiar with IT infrastructure, including cloud computing, APIs, middleware, and other technical solutions that could impact software development choices (e.g., legacy vs. emerging technologies).
Additional Details:
- Location: Lansing, Michigan. Candidates must be located within 2 hours of Dimondale, MI.
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2-5 days onsite/week). No remote-only option. Resource must be onsite from day one.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $70,000 – $110,000 per year
