Job Description: DB Architect (SQLMS SQL Server, DB Tuning)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced DB Architect with expertise in SQL Server and DB Tuning to join our team. This role is crucial for leading and executing the migration of SQL Server databases from on-premises data centers to AWS EC2. You will be responsible for assessing existing SQL Server environments, defining migration, upgrade, and optimization strategies, and performing SQL Server provisioning, configuration, and tuning on AWS infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the migration of SQL Server databases from on-premises data centers to AWS EC2.
- Assess existing SQL Server environments and define migration, upgrade, and optimization strategies.
- Perform SQL Server provisioning, configuration, and tuning on AWS infrastructure.
- Ensure database security, access controls, encryption, backup, and recovery policies are implemented.
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams to ensure smooth cutover and minimal downtime.
- Support testing, validation, and performance benchmarking post-migration.
- Troubleshoot database issues during migration and steady-state operations.
- Document database architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.
Cloud Experience Needed:
- 7+ years of database administration experience with at least 2-3 years of exposure to AWS.
- Hands-on experience running SQL Server on AWS EC2, including storage and networking considerations.
- Understanding of AWS services such as EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC.
- Experience supporting hybrid environments during transition from on-prem to cloud.
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, or Infrastructure as Code is an advantage.
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD pipelines impacting database deployments is preferred.
- Experience working in large, mission-critical enterprise migration programs.
- AWS or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are desirable.
Essential Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
- Proven expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server HA/DR solutions including Always On, Failover Clustering, and Backup/Restore.
- Experience working on Data Center Exit or on-premises to cloud migration programs.
- Good understanding of Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022/2025) hosting SQL Server workloads.
- Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure concepts related to database hosting on EC2.
- Ability to collaborate with application teams supporting Java and .NET workloads.
- Understanding of integration dependencies involving middleware such as TIBCO ESB.
Application Architect (Data Center Exit) Role Description:
Required Skills:
- Strong experience in designing and assessing enterprise application architectures built using Java, .NET, and Oracle Forms.
- Hands-on experience in application discovery, dependency mapping, and migration readiness assessment.
- Good understanding of backend databases including Oracle 19c and SQL Server and their interaction with applications.
- Strong knowledge of middleware and integration patterns, especially applications using TIBCO ESB.
- Experience working with applications hosted on Windows Server 2016-2025 and Linux platforms including RHEL 7, 8, and 9.
- Working knowledge of AWS storage services such as Amazon S3, EFS, and FSx for application data and file systems.
- Hands-on or working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Exposure to DevOps practices on AWS including CICD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Strong communication and documentation skills to work with cross-functional and project teams.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead application discovery and assessment activities as part of the Data Center Exit program.
- Analyze existing on-premise application architectures and define target-state architectures on AWS EC2.
- Identify and recommend appropriate migration strategies such as rehost, replatform, or minor refactoring.
- Work closely with cloud, infrastructure, database, security, and DevOps teams to ensure alignment.
- Guide application teams in adopting AWS storage services such as S3, EFS, and FSx where applicable.
- Ensure application integrations with TIBCO ESB and backend databases work seamlessly post-migration.
- Support application deployment, testing, validation, and troubleshooting during migration waves.
- Review Terraform-based infrastructure definitions from an application architecture perspective.
- Prepare application architecture documents, migration runbooks, and support hypercare activities.
Cloud Experience Needed:
- Hands-on experience supporting data center migration projects from on-premise to public cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Strong experience working with AWS services for application hosting, primarily EC2-based architectures.
- Experience migrating Java, .NET, and Oracle Forms applications to AWS environments.
- Understanding of application connectivity to Oracle Exadata hosted on AWS.
- Experience working with AWS networking, security, and operational best practices.
- Exposure to AWS storage services including S3, EFS, and FSx in application architectures.
- Working knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure automation in AWS.
- Exposure to DevOps and CICD practices for applications on AWS.
- Prior experience as an Application Architect in large-scale Data Center Exit programs is highly preferred.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $120,000 – $160,000 per year (Estimated)
